Bay Friendly Garden Tour posterA bay friendly garden tour in Alameda on April 29 featured backyard orchards and vegetable gardens, urban habitats for butterflies, birds and bees and drought tolerant substitutes for water guzzling lawns

According to the tour booklet, “The Bay-Friendly Coalition offers an annual self-guided tour of private residential gardens that demonstrate gardening techniques appropriate for local conditions. Host gardeners are native plant enthusiasts, wildlife gardeners and urban food growers who are happy to share their gardens and talk about their accomplishments and challenges.”

Bay friendly garden tour in Alameda featured six gardens and a visit to Plouhgshares Nursery at Alameda Point. The gardeners whose gardens were toured, are a group that includes native plant enthusiasts, do-it-yourselfers and landscape professionals.  Each garden was beautiful in the variety of ways they used drought resistant plants and plants which attract wildlife.

Hi Evelyn,

I really enjoyed your pictures as they are so restful and inviting. Mother Nature is so wonderful and I especially like the second picture with the chair and the umbrella. I also like the make your own garden with the wooden planter. This is nice for people who do not have a lot of yard space but want to grow their own vegetables or spices.

I would enjoy being there right now. We are cool and cloudy here today. Thanks for sharing.
