The first quarterly Phoenix Active Rain Bloggers meeting hosted by Brian Brady played to a packed room this morning - check Brian's blog post for the complete details.

Greg Swann of BloodhoundBlog was in attendance.  It was clear from the first few sentences that this was someone who has much to share about blogging - strategy, linking, philosophy and much more.

As we went around the room Greg had specific incisive advice for the other attendees, that will likely save days if not months of "do it yourself" research on our own.

One theme that Greg reinforced to us all was that credibility is paramount - lose that and you've lost it forever.  Many of his posts take the "Discrepancy + Truth = Blog Post" approach - which identifies fibs from the mainstream media, identifies the truth, and in one instance resulted in a retraction just yesterday (I think) by one of the media "big boys"!

Greg referred several times to Chris Anderson's "The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business Is Selling Less of More " which I took to be a recommendation - fortunately it's something just arrived from Amazon so it move to the top of the stack!

One of the notable quotes from Greg was "If Dustin Luther is the Water, then all others are the Wave" referencing Dustin Luther of RainCityGuide.com.

Others in attendance included the notable Jay Thompson (The Phoenix Real Estate Guy)and Jonathan Dalton (Dalton's AZ Homes) who provided insight into how and why they started blogging and how they have traveled far in such a short time.  I'm not going to steal their thunder here - so check out their blogs (linked above) for their own musings!

Brian Brady "I'll never buy donuts for real estate agents" did just that this morning, along with juice and bagels, and The Marriott Group looks forward to the second meeting - sometime next quarter!

I am SOOO jealous that I don't live in Phoenix.  What a group!

I, too, am jealous.  We might have only 3 bloggers in the entire state of Virginia at this point in time.  I will have to live and learn vicariously through the posts on AR.

Nice post  :)

It was great meeting everyone and being able to put a face and person to the words.

The long tail is *very* interesting stuff. For more, see the blog: http://longtail.typepad.com/

Um, would it be worth a $79 plane ticket or a 5 hour drive (each way) next time?  I am not a jealous person but right now I wish I coulda been there!

  Donuts, what kind?  Krispy Kreme?

Please tell me more... I'd love to know the context around Greg's comments!  :)

Dustin - Greg was singing your praises!  He was giving us a "mini history" of real estate blogging, and you figured prominently as one of the key bloggers!

Indeed Dustin, Greg applauded you more than once. You are The Man.

Renee - Fly, forget driving! But do come!  All the Krispy Kreme's closed around here :(

Mo - you should move to Phoenix. We'd love to have you. You could escape the MI winters. I know a couple of really good agents that can help you find the perfect home.

I didn't really think about it at the time, but it was truly an Arizona Rain Storm. Did you realize that we had the #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 11, and 15 Arizona ActiveRain points people there? (and more. And I could have missed someone - sorry...)

And me without a camera...

Thank you everyone for the participation.

Renee, I'd say the plane ticket is worth it.

Phoenix is the epicenter of real estate blogging.

Let's all encourage Lorine Lovett to post.

More comments later.

Dustin Luther: Please tell me more... I'd love to know the context around Greg's comments! :)

Slightly misquoted.

Verbatim: "Dustin Luther is the water. Everyone else in real estate weblogging is just a wave."

I was speaking to your overall influence, but specifically to
Linkation, Linkation, Linkation.

Kind words from Greg have extra meaning from me as I happen to view him as one of the most interesting, persuasive and intelligent real estate thinkers I've ever met (online and off).

Well put Suzanne.  I enjoyed the meeting as well.  I found this to be a very educating experience and look forward to the next get together.  I feel fortunate that Phoenix is the place to be and our team is here.

Suzanne (and Tony),

As one of the three bloggers in Virginia, a "virtual blog blast" would be great! Definitely count me in and let me know how I can help.
