Mechanical inspection that wa snot a good one.

I did a recent post about inspector who work for the State and or local, county and municipalities.

This post is not a rant nut it asks the question. Why are the inspectors not doing their jobs as intended.

This  link will take you there. http://actvra.in/zvp

When contractors start cutting corners, it's not a good thing.

Just to save a few bucks in the short term. Why add to the problems by "not doing the job correctly the first time"?

This job was inspected by a mechanical inspector within three days of the completion of the job.

But was it really? Did the inspector do a "drive by inspection" Who knows.

This furnace was installed in the proper spot. The duct work was installed correctly.

So why was'nt the venting installed correctly?

Furnace installed correctly.

This furnace was installed correctly. Too bad they did'nt pay attention to the venting as well.

No "B" venting.

Here is a look at the venting that is laying on top of the duct work. It is not a "B" vent. The contractor used a simple single walled pipe to install the furnace exhaust.

When I ran my hand around the top of the duct work, I could feel that the duct work was already "melting" from the heat being given off from the single walled venting.

This was a permitted furnace. Notice the company sticker on the unit after installation.

There will be more on these types of installs.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi Clint.  We have a local electrical inspector who doesn't inspect.  He just signs off on the permits.  Awful!

Clint: The more of these you catch the less likely the same contractor will be willing to cut corners in the future.  Another good catch!

Clint, one of our news stations a couple years back did a series on this type of bad behavior!     This just makes a builder or seller look bad.    Many were found to be "passed" from the sidewalk!

Hi Conrad,

Sounds like "other inspectors" I have known over the years.

Hi Anita,

Looks like there is a "trend going on here". I just wish they would do the job right the first time.

Have a good day,

Thank you Joshua,

I do try to do the best inspection for the client. Even if it means they don't buy the home.

Have a good week ahead in New York.

Hello Joan,

That seems to be the case here. If the inspector actually looked at the job, then it would have failed and would have to have been re fitted to code.

Not in this case.

Thanks for the comment.

Serious issue that one!  They beat that stuff around to accommodate what they were doing!  At least they used Wardflex as the CSST, but even that will be flagged soon.  And no sediment trap.  Are sediment traps typically used out there?
