Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Fresh Water Fish

By

Being motivated by some of my videoblogging buddies on ActiveRain (Debb Janes, Richard Yates, and Michael Thornton just to name three), I decided one evening to capture footage while watching our African Cichlids (freshwater fish from Lake Malawi in Africa, the third largest lake there) in our 110 gallon freshwater tank. Since I work mostly from home as my base, and have many clients meet me here, it’s always fun to turn on the lights of the tank, especially if I know kids are coming. Inevitably, people are immediately drawn to it as they head past the entry.

Our Cichlid Fish Tank

There is something very fluent and calming about watching fish. We’ve seen these guys grow since having the tank set up about 18 months ago. Pretty cool stuff. I have named some of the fish, as you will hear in this video. (You'll also hear my Golden Retriever, Takoda, breathing in the background--he gets excited watching, too!)

They are the closest we could come to a saltwater-like tank without all of the maintenance. Enjoy!!!

I love both saltwater and fresh water aquariums Gayle and they are so relaxing as was your super video. Thanks for bringing that to us.

It was so relaxing - there is just such a peaceful calm - even watching the fish and their frenzy to eat. I'll bet the kids do love to watch the activity - good way to keep them occupied...ha. ( and, thanks so much for the shout out). :) Great job - you didn't jerk the camera at all - it was smooth and easy to watch.  :)  Loved Takoda's heavy breathing.

Debb,

Very nice and peaceful.  I think it is a lovely and decorative feature to have a fish tank.  Ron wants a salt-water tank in our next home, and I know that it needs a professional to maintain...but why should'nt he have exactly what he wants?  We built a koi pond in our LA home, and the raptors helped themselves to the one on the top of the property, the one by the pool, I managed to kill trying to balance the PH of the water...so we definitely need pros...LOL...Loved Takoda's cameo. A

Gary, glad you enjoyed it--certainly not the fish we currently have in the Lake!

Roger~it isn't Florida, but it DOES at least remind us of clear and exotic waters.

Barbara, I'm just delving into this and look forward to experimenting with my (soon to be) new camera!

Debb~the fish are like puppies, they follow you from one end of the tank to the other til you feed them! It was funny finally seeing it on a full screen, because I noticed myself in the reflection in the back (OOPS, a video no-no), but I sure appreciated your Thumbs Up on my smooth moves....!!!

Alexandra, while shooting this, I realized that the mic would pick up some background sounds, like the music I had overhead, but I had NO IDEA Mr. T's heavy breathing would be part of the ambience! My husband has had saltwater tanks before, but he's only home on the weekends, and it takes a LONG time to change the water and the PH, etc., so he opted for these. And, because there are no leaves, or plants, the water stays cleaner.  If Ron ever wants to know more, let me know....

So, let me ask you this question:  Do you have a fish named Wanda?  (Sorry)  Your video is very tranquil indeed.

Oh, Miss Carla, NOPE!  We did briefly have a couple of Nemos, but alas they disappeared (not on my watch), as these fish are pretty aggressive and you can't usually put other or SMALLER fish in with them. That's why Little Big Man is so special to me!

I didn't plan on putting it on the WORLDWIDEWEB, I just did it to practice, so wasn't planning any of my "conversation" OR the heavy breathing.

Gayle,

Your watertank is beautiful I am sure the kids love it when they come visit. I love all animals and I am a big believer that watching them and playing with them (pets) reduces our stress.

How big of a tank you have there Gayle?  Looks like you have quite a number of these fish in there.  That was very soothing.  You put us to shame with your photos, now video.

That was interesting to watch.  How many fish do you have.  And, Kristin, it is a fresh water tank.

Patty, I know from research that's been done that when you pet a dog, your blood pressure goes down. I have low blood pressure generally, and I think it's because I grew up from babyhood with an "older sister" as a dog and have always had them in my life.

Sharon, really glad you love our little fishies--they are very calming. I love their variety.

Richard, I always love your "take" on things!  You made me chuckle. Yeah, well my Fishhawk Lake "tank" is out my backdoor!

Kristin~thanks for thinking it WAS a saltwater tank, that was what we were aiming for, lookwise, without the actual WORK it takes. They are freshwater (as Don pointed out in his comment later).

Ellie~ it's 110 gallons. I didn't capture the whole breadth of it in the photo. I loved you put us to shame comment--you made me smile with glee!

Don, well, I tried to count them...damn they kept moving AROUND, go figure. I would say 20ish??
