Now you are asking yourself "what does feng shui have to do with real estate"? The principles of feng shui (pronounced fung shway) include placing strategic representations of five natural elements around your room-earth, water, fire, metal and wood. Whether you think this will bring harmony to your home or is just hocus pocus, there are some things that you can do this time of the year to make everyone's life happier in your home.
According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, while you are taking down the Christmas tree and other holiday decorations, go through them and see if there are any that you are not using and throw them away. If there are things that you just don't like, give them to a charity. If you got some new clothes and your kids got toys, go through the old stuff and visit the Good Will truck. Explain to your children that they will go to other children who cannot afford them. It is even fun to let them select what will go.
Give everything a good cleaning and repair those broken objects that you have been putting off. There is nothing worse that a constant reminder of things you have been putting off.
Okay, here is some serious feng shui. You know how good you feel with the Christmas tree in your home? According to Chinese tradition it is because it is a triangle. The triangle is a powerful symbol representing the fire element which works to increase your passion, emotion and wealth. To replace this energy (remember triangle = 3) move 27 things which is 3x9. Move some books from one shelf to another or clear off cluttered counter tops. Even evaluate your furniture placement. Would you like a better view from a window or center furniture around a fireplace? Also, when the glitz is gone, where do you need color?
So back to our original question..."what does feng shui have to do with real-estate"? Well if you do some of the things we have suggested and you are planning to put you home on the market in 2008, you are ready! You have uncluttered, cleaned, staged furniture and maybe have even painted.
