Columbia, South Carolina's Vista is a Happening Place

As a realtor I am always on the lookout for what is happening in other cities around the country, and especially their market and architecture.  Although originally from South Carolina, I don't get back there as often as I'd like, but when I do I tend to digest as much as possible, and what I found this time around is that Columbia has made some kind of comeback.  The city is thriving in its downtown area known as the Vista and Main Street.

The city kept it historical integrity intact by saving all of the old Civil War era buildings, brick pavered streets, and train station, and turned them into restaurants, bars, walking areas, and an eclectic set of mixed use stores.  The upper floors of these buildings were converted to lofts for the yuppy business types and students.  During my tenure there while I was a student at USC this area was dead, dead, dead.  But to see what is happening now is beyond description.  I wanted to share some of my photos of the architecure there, which I found to be incredibly beautiful and unique.
