So you want to be organized, but have storage containers that look neat too. Here are some helpful hints for getting the most out of your pantry containers.

BE SQUARE. Square bottoms take up less space, as do containers that nest next to each other.
GO CLEAR. Clear is great because you can see at a glance what you have. Clear acrylic containers with a center ring that pops down for an airtight seal are one of the most popular things on the market right now.
DO THE HAND TEST. Can you open the container with one hand? If not, then find something else. We all are multi taskers, and with so many pop open options, out there, why not make it easier for ourselves?
TRY FREEBIES. I am a big recycler. Try using that glass jar that the tomato sauce came in to hold rice or pasta.

Kristin, Thanks for these great tips. I like clear containers for leftovers in the refrigerator so that I do not have to open them to see what I have.
I am constantly updating and re fixing the pantry. So I read this post with interest. It seems that no matter how hard I try to keep it organized after about 1 month I have to do it all again. Containers for some stuff may help so thanks

Organizing myself is an ongoing battle. I spend more time organizing myself than any other activity. Trouble is I never get completely organized before I mess it up again and have to start over. :-(
The food pantry is very important to many home buyers-I see many new homes have a glass door so you can see into it.
Sorry to hear that Sharon....I am sure you do just fine!
Harry, that is correct!
Kristin - I never thought of it but you're right -square containers take up less space! Love your tips and from this point forward I'm buying square plastic storage containers!

Thanks Lou! Same to you!
Kristin - the "can you open with one hand" made me laugh -- sometimes I can't open them with 2 hands :) I reuse too; butter containers (soft), sour cream containers, jars.
I know what you mean Toni...me too !!
