Viccino's comes from the word "Vicinato" or "Vicinanza" which means neighborhood, vicinity, nearness, proximity and closeness in Italian.

This little gem lives up to it's name.  It's not fancy, it's comfortable and has not changed in the 20+ years it's been there.  Think "hole in the wall" ambiance with vinyl red and white checked table cloths, fake flowers on the tables and colorful Italian scene paintings on the walls.  This is a noisy, family friendly and casual place. Everytime I have gone in Vicino's I never fail to see someone I know.  Even people I have'nt seen in years.

You are greeted by John, the owner with a handshake and a lot of times a complimentary white pizza appetizer or dessert.  John has survived and thrived through some tough economic times and competition from a lot of new restaurants and the big chains that have come to Downtown Silver Spring over the last 20+ years.  John was formerly the Chef at Pines of Rome in Bethesda.  If you have been to Pines of Rome you will see and taste it in a lot of the dishes at Vicino. 

The food is excellent and the prices are exceptionally reasonable.

There is an Outdoor Patio for dining in season and the basement has space for large parties.  Occasionally they have a jazz band playing here.
