The words we speak and the thoughts we think are much more POWERFUL than most of us realize.  We carelessly use words and hold thoughts without realizing the effect they have upon ourselves and others. Or, we can use our words and thoughts to make magic in our lives. One of my goals in 2008 is to be more careful with my words and thoughts and to use my words and thoughts to create the life I really, really want.

The words that we speak and the thoughts that we think can change our physical reality.  "Hado" is the phenomenon brought to light by the work of Japanese researcher Dr. Masaru Emoto. "Hado" refers to the subatomic vibration which exists in all matter and its basis, the energy of consciousness.

Dr. Emoto is best known for his study of water and how words affect its physical reality.  Water samples were subjected to various words, spoken and written, as well as music, and then frozen and looked at under a microscope.  The results were staggering.  Dr. Emoto says,

"Words are the vibrations of nature. Therefore beautiful words create beautiful nature. Ugly words create ugly nature. This is the root of the universe.”

Here are two examples of water crystals subjected to the following words:

I will Kill You

 "I will kill you"

Love and Gratitude

 "Love and Gratitude"

If words and thoughts can have this effect upon water, what effect do they have upon our lives, relationships, goals, and dreams?  I wonder....

  • What words and thoughts do I hold in my mind each day?
  • What effect do the words I speak to others have?
  • What effect do the words I use in my own "self-talk" have within my body and life?
  • How can I use my words and thoughts to manifest my goals and dreams?

You can read about Dr. Emoto's work at www.hado.net

31 Comments on The Words You Speak And The Thoughts You Think Have Powerful Consequences

Hi Dan...You are so right, you hit the nail on the head, positive thinking attracts positive results.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dan-WOW! Now that is interesting. I truly believe that what we feel inside and the words we speak to ourselves is felt by all around us.  My hubby tells me all the time that my attitude sets the tone for our home.  If I'm grumpy, our children our grumpy.  If I'm bouncing off the walls with excitement, they're doing the same.  Positive feeds good nature, negative indeed feeds the not so good.

I'm right along side you here Dan!  What we think is who we are. Our thoughts drive behavior. I choose to let others think the way they like but I also do not let others try and intimidate me into thinking their way is always right as well. Did I make sense on that?  Oh, well...made sense to me. :) In any event...we throw out what we want back. If I detach from something that is in that negative space you're talking about.....it is a positive for me. Okay...that sounded better :)

I would tend to think it would be the emotion behind the words that makes the difference, but I am not familiar with the study. It is fascinating work. Someone close to me always tends to talk about how bad she feels, or how she is down, or how she is overwhelmed. I have learned to think and speak otherwise for myself, but if I talk to her about it, she doesn't get it.

What a great post.  This is so true.  Thinking positive thoughts also feels better.  A great topic for the start of the New Year.

12/30/2007 05:29 PM by Sherry Spengel | Wheaton IL (Prudential Spengel Realty)

Fred - That nail is so hard to hit too.  Happy New Year too you.

Julie - You, grumpy? Say it isn't so.

Sally - I got it.

Karl - You are right.  They discovered that the emotions and thoughts of the observer also had some effect.

Sherry - Thanks for your comment.

Nice positive point!  As most of us grow older we realize the value of being a genuine "good person". And watching what you say is a great start. Best of wishes to you in 2008

12/30/2007 05:40 PM by Christina Williams / Tennessee real estate (FIRST REALTY COMPANY)

Hey, Dan.  This topic along with the study on water molecules, was covered entertainingly in the movie What the Bleep Do We Know? (now out on DVD)

It's a must-see.

12/30/2007 06:02 PM by Karen Webster...Grand Rapids, MI Realtor (5 Star Real Estate, Grand Rapids MI)

I agree with Karl. It's the word and emotion... good post. Something you can't hear often enough.

12/30/2007 06:34 PM by Pat O'Reilly (RE/MAX)

It is amazing how much effect a positive attitude and a kind word can have.  We all need to practice them more!  Thanks for the positive post.

Dan, I've always been fascinated with Dr. Emoto's water studies....I was discussing his work the other day with my Dad, Stepmom and son and they were intrigued.

There have also been the studies on plants that show when we direct love their way, they thrive and we direct angry thoughts their way, they suffer and wilt.  Amazing, isn't it?  We're all one being afterall....

I'd love to have a long discussion with you about all this in person some day.

Warmest wishes to you and your loved ones for a very successful 2008 filled with love and happiness,

Jo

That is truly amazing. I have not heard of Dr Emoto's study, but now you have given me yet more to go out and read.

I'm not familiar with Emoto, but the principles are all biblical. And we all need these reminders.

12/30/2007 10:14 PM by Lisa Hill (Daytona Beach Real Estate) (Adams Cameron and Company)

Dan - I will have to check out his work.  Dr. Murphy, wrote The Power of your Mind which was really good and in Think & Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill also discusses the subconscious mind and auto suggestion.

Thxs for the info.

Hi Dan,
Those pictures speak for themselves, do they not?  Wow and double wow!  I am a believer in positive thinking and know from personal experience what a difference it makes.  Emit negative, attract negative.....emit positive, attract positive.

Karen, Thanks for reminding me of where I first learned of this study.

Pat, Cindy, and Lisa - Yep,  Positive attitude makes THE difference. But, more than attitude, belief!

Jo - Funny, that you were just discussing this.

Simon - You gotta see this.

Aziz - This is confirmation of what others have written about.

Cynthia - Yep, a picture is worth 1000 words.

Peggy - You can purchase posters of the pictures from the web site.

Your're not kidding.  So many times our words can be misinterpreted too, especially over an email-which is a whole other blog.

01/01/2008 09:33 PM by Cindy Bryant~Houston's Home Staging & Home Stagers By Redesign Etc.~RESA~ASHSR (Redesign Etc., Inc.-Houston, TX (Texas))

Yeah--WAY cool stuff from Emoto!  And the fact that our bodies are mostly made up of water can have a profound effect on us.  Happy New Year.  Good post.

01/02/2008 06:38 AM by Lisa Spalding (Watson Realty Corp.)

Cindy - I wounder what would happen to the glass of water sitting next to my blog?

Lisa - Very good point about how our body is mostly water.  I wish I had included that.

01/02/2008 08:18 AM by Dan Forbes (.)

Dan,  I listened to The Secret CD's.  My husband and I read self improvement books now and for the past 18 months.  Believe me he has straightened up tremendously, and he needed it.  But that is beside the point.

So I listened to the first CD and put it to the test.  The author said, "instead of going to your mail box tomorrow and dreading the bills in there, go with the expectation, and KNOW there will be money instead of a bill.  Sure enough the next day I ran out to the mailbox and knew there was a check.  It was there in the sum of $54. and some change.  It was a refund from the electric company.

I have tried that method since and it has not worked again in about 8 weeks.

Some mornings I get up feeling refreshed and just KNOW that a buyer is coming very soon.  Fizzle, blink, and it's gone.  Other areas in my life, I try to think positive, nothing.  Think negatively and POW it's there in a day or two.  Why is that.  You can't know the answer to that  nor I or anyone else.  If you knew that would mean that we would all have what we want out of life.

Curious.  All that P/M'ing aside.  Your post was amazing, truly amazing.

01/07/2008 08:17 PM by Vivienne Seaman (RE/MAX Eagle Properties)

Vivienne - Good question.  Try reading some of my posts tagged "Law of Attraction."  Good input.

01/07/2008 09:44 PM by Dan Forbes (.)

I love these pictures. I looked through the whole book once when I saw it at a friend's. I find my iPod is a great tool to have constant positive affirmations in my head while I am doing other things like wirting on active rain.

Shannon - Don't you love modern technology?

01/21/2008 06:34 PM by Dan Forbes (.)

Wonderful material you are sharing here Dan!

I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Emoto when he was in Jackson Hole, WY last summer. He is committed to visually demonstrating through his revolutionary photography that our thoughts (vibrations) affect matter (H2O- water crystals). The photos are further proof that thought are things. He is applying his studies to 'healing' polluted bodies of water as well.

Raymond - That must have been a neat experience.

02/09/2008 07:30 AM by Dan Forbes (.)

I've had a really uncomfortable thought lately - see what you think about it.

I love country music and always have, BUT many of the words are terribly negative, feel-sorry-for-myself kinds of things. Is it just possible that those songs I love are actually causing the cheating, lying, divorce, etc. that they sing about?

Now that I've started thinking about that, I think maybe it isn't safe to sing along!

02/16/2008 12:42 PM by Marte Cliff (Marte Cliff Copywriting)

Marte - Country Music does seem to go along that line of thinking, does'nt it.
