Value never goes out of style for some individuals, and with our economic experience, more people are realizing that value is more important than presitge. The other trend is getting a bargain, and high end stores have responded by doing flash sales on many items. We recently bought some beautiful Turkish bath towels at a flash sale at Neiman Marcus for 1/2 price...many are waiting for just those moments. A

It is challenging to find good inventory at a good value. I agree that buyers seem to be looking for value and finding that value takes time.

Unless a buyer is looking for a complete fixer, then they want certain features in a home and are not willing to settle for less. If they have to pay a little more for that "value" then they seem to be doing that.
Gordon, your assessment makes total sense. Regardless of the buyers price range and goals, they (we) all want to feel like we obtained value for the money spent. Of course we like to find bargains also, but the bargains are only a bargain if the percieved value is present.
