I had family from Michigan come down for Christmas and we decided to drive down to Key West & Miami since none of us had been there. We had *so much fun*.
We saw some very interesting folks there....LOL....You could just sit for hours and people watch and be entertained. There was a guy riding a bike down the street with a *large* iguana on the back of it....not in a cage! A guy walking down the beach with a Macaw bird sitting on his shoulder.
On Duval Street in Key West, there were lots of "interesting folks" there too. Duval Street seemed to be the happening spot in Key West. Every walk of life is on Duval Street, and that's not an exaggeration. Everything from a guy painted in gold from head to toe, wearing gold clothes and riding a gold bike down the road, live steal drums music being played, a guy playing music on 5 gallon buckets, to a guy sitting on the sidewalk telling dirty jokes in order to get beer money....he was funny as heck though!!
We also went to the southern most point in the Continental U.S. and snapped a few photos there. We were closer to Cuba there, then we were to Miami. Cuba was only 90 miles away and Miami was 150 miles away.
We had a lot of fun and I want to go back some day when I can spend more time just in Key West to tour through some of the older homes and stay in one of the Island bungalows instead of a hotel.
We then headed to Miami for a couple days. I never realized how *big* Miami really is until we got there. I'm sure you could spend a couple weeks there and still not be able to see everything.
We were able to get a room at a really nice hotel called Newport Beachside that was right on A1A which is what runs along the ocean, so our room overlooked the beach. That was *cool*. They had little tiki-hut cabanas with built in lounge chairs set up on the beach that we parked ourselves under for most of the time there.
We did go eat at Emeril Lagasse's restaurant in Miami Beach....and man oh man....I would have to say that was probably the best food I've ever eaten in my entire life. If you ever get the chance to go, you need to eat there! The restaurant was gorgeous and the service is top notch!
We had a lot of fun, but it's now Monday morning and back to reality! *sigh*
Here are some of the photos I took while we were down there. Hope you enjoy!
