Home Staging and Emotional Connections: Before/After Photos

Studies have shown that most buyers tend to purchase homes based on emotions more than any other financial investment. Why? Because a home is several things: where you live and raise your family, a representation of who you are and your lifestyle as well as a financial investment.  When selling, it’s important that buyers can envision themselves living in your home which is why we suggest removing family photos, collections and personal items that remind them they are in your home.

One of the jobs of home staging is to create emotional connections with buyers. For example kitchens and bathrooms are mostly hardscape. Rather then remove everything from the kitchen counters and bathroom vanities (the old school of thought) this Morris County stager adds warmth and a feeling of “home” using several techniques:

I use organic props and bring the outdoors inside to create emotional connections with buyers. When staging a kitchen, I will add plants, flowers, fruit or vegetables which trigger emotions of cooking, while warming up the space.

This was a recent kitchen I staged that was already lovely, but I knew we could add some “life” to it, using oils, fresh vegetables, some baked bread and fruit. (Some new stools updated the island.)

For this bathroom a little staging went a long way.  We added warmth by giving it a spa like feeling so buyers can envision themselves taking a bath in this relaxing space...

After with crisp, white towels, bath accessories, glass jars with shells, and candles…

The point is, when presenting your home on MLS or in person you want buyers to connect with your home on an emotional level, giving them the feeling they are home. You want them to easily envision themselves living in your house. Cold, sterile hardscape doesn’t illicit feeling of “home sweet home” so home staging helps buyers see your home's true potential.
