Competition brings out the best in most of us. For some, it brings out the worst and those people stoop to levels unacceptable. I got into the financial industry over 20 years ago and when I did I told myself at that time, regardless of what I was doing, I was not going to be a "mudslinger". When I was a CFO for a company about 8 years ago, one of the things that I hated was a saleman that would call me up and slam his/her competition. It just shows the lack of selling ability to me.
