To me, one of the beauties of Mother Nature is looking out on freshly fallen snow. And if the sun's shining right after a snowfall, even more beautiful!
There's something so magical about freshly fallen snow - the big flaky soft kind of snow. It's quiet and serene, all peaceful and perfect. Some of the beauty can be seen and touched, some can only be felt, and pictures never ever capture any of that the way you see it and feel it in person.
I was out shoveling my back walkway this morning, and these words kept running through my head, "a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow". I kept having those words run through my head, and finally figured out they're part of the Simon and Garfunkel song, "I Am A Rock".
While outside in snow like the one we just got and in the last snowfall, it really is a 'silent shroud of snow'. The world is quiet and peaceful, and the snow is gorgeous.... you just have to experience it yourself to really know what I'm talking about.
Here's a poem from Robert Frost:
"The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I rued."
"Snow is like fall leaves.....loveliest when it's still on the trees." I read this in a magazine somewhere, and wrote it down because I liked what it said.
It is true - it is so magnificently beautiful when fresh snow coats the branches on trees, even the tiniest little branch gets coated. That moment, when it's still on the trees and before it melts and falls off or the wind blows it, that moment is when it is at its prettiest..... really something that should be seen in person as pictures rarely can capture what that's really like to see.
It's snowing here again today. It started last night around 10pm, and 12 hours later, it's still snowing. A light fluffy beautiful snow............
