One of the most beloved traditions of the Kentucky Derby is when fans are able to spend the mornings, in the week leading up to the first Saturday in May, watching their picks for the big race. Young and old gather at Churchill Downs to marvel at the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby contenders as they go through their morning workout. This special tradition is referred to as Dawn at the Downs.

There are two options when attending these special morning workouts. Some fans choose to remain casual and simply show up to stand on the track railing, hoping to get up close and personal with their favorite horse. Additionally, there is a concession stand style window where fans can grab a bite to eat while enjoying their morning. Still others desire the true Churchill Downs experience and purchase tickets that include a Kentucky-style breakfast buffet that overlooks the finish line from a four-tier balcony.

Either way you go, Dawn at the Downs is an experience that is envelopes you in all that Churchill Downs has to offer. The atmosphere is unlike what is found on the days of the Kentucky Oaks and Derby, and is definitely worth experiencing.
