I Work In Maryland; Someone In California Can Help Me
As a general statement, it is certainly true that someone in California can help someone in Maryland.
This is the beauty of a site like Active Rain. Real estate agents from around the country, from around the world, can share their knowledge and experience, hence improving the profession as a whole.
However, I received an email from a firm based in California. They are inviting me to possibly work leads which they are generating in my area.
I have not heard of the firm but based on experience with similar concepts, I would guess that they are not real estate agents, not real estate brokers, but rather that they are professional internet marketers.
Yes, they are professional internet marketers who advertise a product or a service which they themselves do not actually provide.
They say that they can provide me with thirty or more listing leads per month. And, these leads are not for short sales or foreclosures.
Of course, there is a referral fee that I would pay them for each lead.
So I started thinking from the point of view of the prospective sellers. Why, I thought, would a seller of a home in Maryland go to someone in California. Well, quite naturally, they do not go to California, they go to the internet which is conveniently accessible from the computer sitting right in their very own home.
I thought further, why would a seller of a home go to a firm which is not a real estate brokerage in order to sell their home. They would not.
It is true that people will start many of their endeavors on the internet in this age of information, but they would not go across the country to sell a house on the opposite side of the country.
My opinion is that there are too many firms, which provide non-value added services.
They clog the internet marketing a service which they do not provide, making it difficult for the true providers of those services to be found on the internet.
An agent in Maryland is looking for some new business. The agent could knock on some doors, send out some targetted marketing material, network in their area, . . . , or they could go to California?
