We've all read the stories of the Natural Disasters that can strike without enough time to plan ahead. From tornadoes and hurricanes to wild fires and floods, Mother Nature can strike swiftly.
Have you ever wondered after the smoke has cleared or the water has receded what it would be like to file the insurance claim? After loved ones and pets have been accounted for, the time to recall what all was lost can be daunting.
TAKE INVENTORY NOW BEFORE DISASTER STRIKES
20 minutes and a camcorder is all it takes to Take Inventory. Go through each room, closet and storage area of your home and record a video of its contents.
HELPFUL TIPS
- Make 2 additional copies of the video to be stored in a bank deposit box and/or with a relative who lives at least 10 miles away from you. If you have a fireproof safe that is bolted to your foundation, keep a copy of your video there as well.
- Be sure to keep an updated list of medications with your video
- Scan copies of important documents such as insurance policies, birth certificates, tax returns, and important contacts. Save to and store a CD in a safe place with your video.
- Be sure to record serial numbers of electronics where possible. This helps track down property in the event of a burglary.
- Don't forget your closets that hold your favorite shoes and clothing.
- Share your video with your insurance agent to see if you need/want additional contents insurance.
In the event of a fire, burglary or tornado once you've confirmed your loved ones are safe, you'll have additional peace of mind in knowing that the process of filing an insurance claim will be made easier.
