Disappearing yard signs

By
Real Estate Agent with Frank Rubi Real Estate
I woke up this morning and found out my house was for sale.  Not by me, but five realtors from different companies and even a FSBO.  Naturally I wanted to find out the details.  How much was I asking for my house? I think I needed to know this.  How come I had five realtors hired to sell my hose?  What about the FSBO?  So naturally I did the first thing any parent would do.  I woke up my teenage daughter.  As I figured one of her friends was plying a trick.  OK I thought it was funny, but once is enough.  Of course he didn't remember where the signs came from.  So I instructed him to return them to the offices and I would stay cool.  I figure I probably would have done this too at his age.  I also told him next time I wouldn't be so lenient.

John, this reminds me of former days when students would steal road signs for their frat houses.  It seemed harmless, but stealing is stealing, and it costs money to replace the signs.

BTW, did you get any offers?

We have one agent in my area that takes all her signs down the day before Halloween, and puts them back the day after. I'll have to ask her what happened to make her do this. Might be an interesting story.

Reminds me of being young....but what's funny is that my adult friends and I still do this occasionally - as a joke to one another! It's usually after a party ends!

Halloween and New Year's is another good idea - perhaps April Fool's Day also?  Especially if you live in a college town!

This is a bit funny.  I know they live around real estate but I didn't figure they would think along those lines to play a trick.

John, how funny. I have always wondered where my signs disappear to. Kids...what are you gonna do with him. They do somehow grow up into very delightful people! Thanks, this was cute! Happy New Year!

John that is a funny story.  I once had a vacant house listed and the neighborhood kids kept moving the signs to other properties.  What a pain, everyday I got calls about houses that we didn't really have listed!

This is a funny blog and the posts are also really funny.  Man that is a bad prank to put your sign in others yards that aren't even your listings.  Oh my!  We are all smiling with your son, so don't tell him to read the blog.

Crazy kids, I am mad because I didn't think of stuff like this when I could get away with it.  Thanks for the responses.

John:  I'm sorry but this is funny to me.  I do think you certainly did the right thing by having the signs returned to the respective offices since the signs do cost money.  Still, I would rather see a teen do something like this than some of the other really horrible stuff some of them get into.

John... my immature side says that sure in funny, but my adult real estate side sees the harm in this. We are having a lot of trouble at one of our listings with signs and flyer boxes ending up in neighbors yards. At least most of them are calling us to get them.
