Put Your Guns Away Tonight!

OK, OK, I am sure most of us know this already, but I do have to recognize that, yes, we are in Alabama and Alabama is in the South. (Yes, I am referring to stereotypes, but since I live here I figured it was OK for this article)

Today on Al.com I read an article, Birmingham police: It's illegal to celebrate with gunfire by Carol Robinson,and I thought I would share some of the highlights with you.

Basically, it is against the law to celebrate the coming if the new year with gunfire. 

Lt. Henry Irby, from the Birmingham Police Department, said that, "Discharging a firearm within the city limits is illegal. It can also be dangerous...Most people don't give much thought of what can happen when they discharge a firearm into the air during celebrations such as New Year's Eve, Not only could property damage happen, but most importantly, death or serious bodily injury to a person may occur."

The Birmingham police is urging and requesting anyone with information about the "illegal discharging of a firearm within the Birmingham city limits" at contact them at 328-9311.

Stephen - All I could say is wow, I had no idea people actually celebrated with guns here.  I think of this happening in far off lands.

Jennifer, I would not say it is common practice, but I am sure in some of the more rural areas it is a temptation... I bet it happens up there too!

Gun play on New Year's Eve is the norm in our area. Go figure.

As for me...I had to behave myself this year. I have a Sheriff's Deputy as a neighbor now.

Unfortunately for me he spent last night at home with his family.

Damn...I really did miss shooting off my shots. This year would have been eight shots out of 9 mil.

Don't look at me like that...Of course I have a 9 mil :)

P.S. Trust me...You don't want to know how many guns I have. Let's just say I am an army unto myself :)

Dick, I KNOW! If you can't fire off a few rounds what's the use! Just kidding, it really is dangerous. I know a cable guy who had to go out to work on New Year's because someone firing off nicked some wires.
