Helping those in the animal kingdom

As many of you know I have been helping a no kill ferret shelter for the past 14 years by being Santa at Santa Paws, being the DJ for their annual fundraiser “Wessels Dancing in the Park” and in any other way I can help them.

Wildcat Haven Sanctuary

Recently while at one of my networking events I was talking to one of my friends and the subject of his mom came up. Well, it seems she runs and animal shelter as well and well unlike ferrets that do eat a lot for their size, they certainly don’t have an appetite like these beautiful animals.

Seems that a lot of people think having an exotic cat was like having a house cat, but just bigger. Well, that isn’t the case and many of these animals needed to find a home. That is where Catt, the owner of Wildcat Haven Sanctuary comes to the rescue.

Their wonderful attitude of saving as many cats as they can is commendable, but very expensive! Talking to her son Ian, he was telling me that the cost to run the sanctuary is around $12,000 a month. As they say on their website “Making a difference one rescue at a time”

Wildcat Haven Sanctuary

I asked what I could do to help and obviously blogging came up and I thought I would first educate others to the fact that hybrids, exotic, whatever you call them, they are still not house cats!!!! Breeders, bread these cats and sell them for huge amounts of money to people that have no idea what it takes to take care of one of these cats.

These animals aren’t meant to live with humans and can be very dangerous and very hard to control, so just stick with tabby from the local humane society and leave the wildcats where they belong… In the wild! None of these cats were born in the wild, but they can't live with humans either. (THEY AREN'T HOUSE CATS!).

The second thing I could do is reach out to you my fellow animal lovers and ask if you can spare anything to help the Wildcat Haven Sanctuary, that would be greatly appreciated. If you can help, please click on the link below and donate what you can to help these beautiful creatures live long lives. Unfortunately these animals can’t go back in to the wild because they are no longer scared of humans, but they can live in comfort and be loved by the wonderful people at the Wildcat Haven Sanctuary.

Please donate to the Wildcat Haven Sanctuary today

I have nothing to add, so I'll reblog this in Honor of my beloved friend Kat the cat I shared living quarters and a wife with for 18 years until his passing six months ago at the age of Twenty.

I don’t like pet ferrets, but once loved they can no longer take care of themselves! They deserve to pass of old age.

There is no excuse for even trying to domesticating the big cats.

Well, Todd, that is one thing I have yet to find in a foreclosure, short sale or regular sale, but I have found plenty of "wildlife."

Todd, there was recently an article in our local paper about a town in Missouri that had several people buy pencil sized alligators. Officials were getting people to turn there much larger alligators over. I do not know who in their right mind would want any of these animals for pets. Why not just get a regular cat?

Thanks for trying to make a difference.

Hi Todd,

It is common in California, for people to want these restricted animals as pets until they get too big and either hurt someone or get turned in by concerned residents. It is so sad and then the animals must either be put down and moved to a pet sanctuary like this one. I can imagine it is expensive to run one so I hope this post helps bring in some $$ to help with their expenses.

I love tigers and have a huge pictue in my office of one but I would never want a real one.
