As I pondered over the last year of 2007 and reviewed my goals and dreams, many came to pass and many did not, or at least not in the way that I expected them to or in the way that I say they should.
Sometimes there is more to it than the manifestation of a desire or a dream coming to pass or not. I came to realize this year that there are many vehicles that we can use to get to the same destination. That perhaps the thing that I wanted and worked so hard for was instead another deeper desire and what I believed to be a detour was in fact the road to get to my soul's purpose. I have come full circle in 2007.
Life is full of ups and downs, struggles and victories. It is all in how we handle those challenges that decides whether you are living a life of acceptance or one of constant struggle. I do believe that some of us are given more to bear than others for whatever reason however it is our choice whether we will become a victim who needs to be nurtured and coddled or a survivor who is going to prove to the world that this won't take us down.
I loved the movie Evan Almighty and here is a post I wrote after watching the movie. It was one of the first posts ever wrote, no bolding, no images but the message was there. I love this scene that I posted below in which God played by Morgan Freeman says, " If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or doe he give them opportunity to be patient? If they pray for courage, does God give them courage or does he give them opportunities to be courageous?" I just love those lines for they are all truth and truth will set you free. When you internalize these words you see a new world, you look at the world through a different set of glasses.
I have learned that there must be balance in the universe. That is a law and no matter how much I would want that law to change, it would be a frustrating and futile battle, one of which I could never win for it would defy purpose and the law. There is no bad without good, no joy without sorry, no mountains without valleys, no sea without shore. And in each majestic opposite, there is splendor and wonder. For who can be sitting on the shores of white sand basking in sunshine and not look up to the grandeur of the mountains in all their glory? For no matter where you go, there you are.
I discovered that the downers are just as important in my life as the thrills and joy. The roller coaster is the thrill ride we call life. It is the only real roller coaster I care to get on and take it to new heights. Whenever you get angry or upset, hurt or cry, it is not the time to say, "poor me" but rather a time to see it as an opportunity to grow.
I would be a liar in your face if I say to you that I wish all the bad that has ever happened to me had never happened. But I have grown to know that No, I did not enjoy being beaten and watching my kids be abused but I am grateful that the experience of it all did make me stronger and it is only in those experiences that I have become who I am and that I am able to do all that I do. Compassion and charity fill my soul in ways that it would not had I not gone down this road.
The downs in life should not be minimized because then you can not accept them and use them to grow. To pretend that all is always well is like slapping good lessons in the face. You can choose to look at difficulties as seeds of spirit to enhance your journey. It is a chance to move closer to your goals or a decision to move away from them. The outcome is the direct result of how you approach the difficulties and how you react to them or decide to be proactive about them.
Our Ego gets in our way on our path to our purpose. The Ego wants control and wants to tell the universe and God what it is we are wanting and how it should be. Learning to let go with intent for the outcome is going with the flow. It is taking proactive steps towards the growing you. Is it in the suffering that we learn or is it in the ability to let go and be guided that we learn our best lesson?
And in the end there is only perception. We each see the same picture yet see something totally different. Perception is everything. In the end if there were no sorrow you would never know what joy is. How magnificent my journey in 2007 has been. Nestor looked at me a few months ago and said, " all the searching you have been doing, all the plans you have made, all the learning you have been doing in being a great coach have all culminated and brought you back to Real Estate. Where you started over 25 years ago, you have come full circle."
And so I have. Thanks to Active Rain, all the members here and my new coaching clients ( agents and mortgage brokers) and my supportive family. 2008 is the year I will finish my book on secrets of a successful real estate agent. This new year I will make the steps to start speaking again and our coaching practice will grow. Our Real estate business is flourishing and we are grateful it always has been so. Stay tuned for the rest of the story.
Please take a couple of moments to watch this movie and read every word on each slide. It is very powerful. May all your dreams come true in 2008!

Katerina - Wow - you are such a gifted communicator and obviously motivate others like me daily and get us to grab an insight we need sometimes just when we need it.
The patience one cracked me up - 5 years ago I was at a woman's church retreat and we were discussing and learning about the Fruits of the Spirit (which I love)- I naively asked the priest for patience and he said you don't pray for patience - you pray for understanding - because most often we're impatient when we lack understanding for others and their points of view - thinking we already have the answer (hmmm that perception thing again)
All my best to you and Nestor in 2008 - I have no doubht it will be a blessed one!!
Nestor and Katerina, You are SO right. We ask and don't always get what we think we are getting. And...I also loved the movie Evan Almighty...it was just like the Biblical version only in a different time period. So funny - I laughed and laughed.
I'm like you...I don't regret the bad times because it gives me understanding and I believe that God will bring people into my life that I am meant to help.
God bless you and your family. We love you so much. I pray for you and yours daily.
Cyndee- Thanks so much for that! I get moved to write and then I write. Of course with Localism I must sometimes make myself write as that is not always as moving as my coaching posts! Did you get to watch the Dream video, very powerful! Happy New Year and I hope that all your dreams come true, especially the ones you and I have talked about. Katerina
GREAT post! You are certainly a very gifted writer and your points are all well written...AND taken! Happy New Year to you and yours! I'm looking forward to your book release!
In the words of Garth Brooks, "Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers, Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs, That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care, Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." Thank you, Katerina, for another fantastic post.
Katerina: You say it all so well....and with such raw honesty it is soothing for the soul...yup....these are the things I live by.....and healthy boundaries are good....detach from what isn't good for us.
Katerina - best of the New year for you, my friend. You deserve all of it and more. You seemed to have found the answer to the toughest question "Why bad things happen to good people?"
Ah.... how appropriate to have read it this morning. You have encouraged me to send this along to all the people I love and care for and I want them to have this dream.
"Everyone who has a dream must face challenges" and then "Living your dream is not just about attaining the result but whom you become along the way".
I will take this to heart forever. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Katerina , It was a pleasure to meet you in 2007. I have been inspired, informed, and improved by your writing. Keep it up. Happy New Year to you and Nestor.
Nestor and Katerina, thank you for your lovely post. I especially liked your link to the Dream movie. I wrote a post recently about limiting beliefs and this movie illustrated it so well. I also liked the Evan Almighty movie.
Cyndee- That is an interesting perception of patience, that it is a lack of understanding for if we understood then we would be patient. Thank you for you heart felt comment and I am glad that I can be a part of your life and enrich it in some small way. One of my highlights of 2007 was in meeting you. Katerina
Missy- I love that video Dreams! It is so powerful, it makes you really think about how big you can dream no matter where you are in life. I love the woman who ran the marathon at 90 years old! Katerina
Kay- We laughed and laughed during the Evan Almighty movie too. Our 5 year old loved it too. HE knows the Noah's ark story very well so he could relate. When you get the chance click on the link to the Dreams Movie, it is very powerful, you will love it! Katerina
Jessica- The first time I told Nestor that you prayed for us he did not believe that would really be true. I said I can feel your prayers. I am so moved that you would take the time to pray for us daily. I thank you so much for that, more than you will ever know. The first time I read that you do that for us, I cried. Katerina
Debe- I am looking forward to finishing the book too! Thank you for the warm compliment and I truly appreciate that you take the time to comment on my blog. Happy New Year to you too! Katerina
Thank God for inspiring Garth Brooks to write such words of wisdom. Thank God for unanswered prayers. I believe they are always answered, just not in the way we want them to be all the time. His wisdom is much more than ours. Katerina
Sally- Did you get the chance to watch the short Dreams movie, the link is in my post. Not the Youtube one from Evan Almighty but the Dream Movie link. It would be great to email it to your daughter and son. My kids love that movie. It is very powerful. The stories are all true in the movie. Katerina
Katerina, Your beautiful post reminded me somewhat of The Prophet...we are destined to have the wonderful times and some not so wonderful times to learn lessons and achieve that balance. This post is very powerful and I'm going to bookmark it when I need a reminder to deal with challanges. Lots of love and blessings to you and Nestor!
Lereena- Thank you and I am so glad that you were moved enough to share the Dream Video. It is so moving, I can not watch it without crying. The message is huge and it is very moving. Katerina
Gary- Happy New Year to you too! The Dream movie is SO powerful and those are true stories. I wish more people would take the moment to watch it. Thank you for your comment. Katerina
Katerina, Great post. I really liked that movie as well. I took my son to that movie when it was in theatres. I thought it sent a great message at the end.
Matthew- Check out the Dream video link in my post. It is also very powerful. Yes, the end, one random act of kindness! Love it! Happy New Year! Katerina
A truly POWERFUL message and a very inspiring eye opener. Most of the time we get caught up in the self serving attitude and we forget the big picture. Thank you so much for this message. It gave me a new perception in life to accept both the good & bad and to acknowledge that we have a God that is in control of everything.
John- Thank you for that wonderful comment! I truly appreciate your comment. It can be hard to do at times because we tend to go back to what is familiar and what we know, like a habit. It is like developing a new mindset. Did you get the chance to watch the video called Dreams on this post? IT is very powerful too. Katerina
Kat..I have seen the Secret, and read the book. It made me think...I use affirmations daily as well, they really do work..We need to feed our subconcious with positve thoughts in good times and bad, this stops the doubting and second guessing from within...........
I have not seen Evan ALmighty, but think I get the concept. As I get older, and maybe wiser, I do take more time to appreciate ...many things ..but mainly my wife and family..my cats...time spent with friends....I do appreciate how you continue to write such inspiring posts..I would have loved to have been in your area and worked with you and Nestor when I was starting out..Now I am sure your coaching is a great infuence on many agents who need guidance!! Thanks again
Manny- Welcome, welcome to AR! You are near our neck of the woods! Thank you for commenting on my blog. If you ever need any help or have questions please email me. Katerina
Mike- WOW! That is so kind of you! What a wonderful comment of appreciation. You know all humans want to feel appreciated.Your comment is real and heart felt. Thank you very much. I have a passion to inspire and help others to be their best in all areas of their lives. Yes, as we get older, most of us, tend to begin to really appreciate the truly important things in life.
