One of the main criteria many Carlsbad home buyers have when searching for a new home is easy access to amenities. This includes shopping, restaurants, business services, and the stuff we all need and use regularly – gas, pharmacies, home improvements, dry cleaners, wine and liquor, fast food, coffee shops, bakeries, hair salons, car washes/detailing, and so on.
El Camino Real is a major thoroughfare running parallel to the coast and the freeway, from Oceanside south to Cardiff. It’s good to know about both for transportation purposes (if you want to avoid the 5) but more so because it is loaded with strip malls and all the shopping you could want. Thus many folks in South Carlsbad (especially Aviara, La Costa, and Rancho Carrillo) and Encinitas (including Olivenhain) are only a few minutes from most of the shopping and services they need on a daily basis.
You cannot possibly list all the stores and amenities, but here are a few highlights you may be interested in; most of the shopping is from the intersection of Alga/Aviara Parkway and El Camino Real south to Encinitas Boulevard in Encinitas, a distance of about 3 miles.
Grocery Stores – there are 4 in Carlsbad alone
2 US Post Offices (one in Carlsbad, one in Encinitas)
Home Depot (who can live without one of these nearby?) and their upscale Home Expo
Restaurants and fast food places – I am estimating at least 50 total
Starbucks and at least a half dozen other coffee shops
Staples and Best Buy are being built
The Forum – an upscale shopping mall with Talbots, Anthropologie, Sur la Table, Z Gallerie, Ann Taylor, Borders and several dozen other stores, the Wine Loft, and at least 4 restaurants
Dentists, Doctors (all types), Chiropractors
Insurance companies
