I got a call from a fellow property management professional asking me if I could verify and refer an old tenant that used to rent from me back in 2006-2009. Sure...go ahead sez I and he submits the name. I am a moment person and having to access mental files that go back years is not my forte. He offered to fax me data and I said, no just answer a few questions
KEEP TO THE RULES
I always tell people that if they abide by the rules, they can always use me as a reference. These people took me up on it. In just a few short questions, I had recall on the people, the place and the period in question and all got high marks
WE DID GOOD BUSINESS
I had warm feelings for them as I remember how important it was for me to have a person I could count on at the time to pay rent and obey rules. Because of them, my employer who was a developer was able to conduct consistent business.
THE QUESTION
Now, it comes time for them to take me up on my offer of a reference. The property manager calling asked the magic question: Would you rent to these people again? Ye, without a doubt... sez I. Congratulations you got some good people there
APPROVED
The manager responded by saying ...Thank you...They got the place. I thanked him and asked him to wish these people a hearty hello from me and to be well. He said he would
THE SYSTEM WORKS
Now they are thinking that I did them right. Perhaps I did...But they did themselves right. They created this reference. I only testified to it....Well done on all involved here...
