Agents!  Use your cel phone to call other real estate agents!  Even if you are in your office, DO NOT USE YOUR OFFICE PHONE with a GATEKEEPER RECEPTIONIST!

A local agent called me this afternoon about a rental listing with her prospects in her office.

She left me a voicemail message on MY CEL PHONE and I returned her call in 5 minutes by dialing from her voicemail message.  Her office receptionist told me that she had "clients" with her and I indicated I KNOW!  THEY WANT TO TALK TO ME!....then she put me on HOLD.....after 10 seconds, I hung up.

Had the agent called me from her cel phone, I could have 1) gotten her voicemail and answered her question for her clients or 2) gotten her and proceeded to give her information she could relay to her prospects.

Maybe she wanted to impress her clients  by using her office phone or run to the rest room without taking her cel phone * whatever the reason, she missed the information she needed for her clients.

Yes, I can find that frustrating, too.  I've had times where I've called back quickly and no one in the office knows who called me.

Debbie * this needs to be a habit that is learned early.  Calling after hours and getting a phone tree by LAST names and I only have their FIRST name means they do not get the answers THEY need for THEIR client.

Wallace,

It's just a lot more challenging to return a call when you have to stop and write a number down.  When I am returning VM from my car, those that call from a DIFFERENT number are returned last when I am parked and can jot numbers down.

All the best, Michelle

It does pay to understand what is going on when business is transacted.  Communication is the very essence of business.

I think we all need to have more than one means of communication the cell phone is good but if it's bad weather out, or if you are in a location with no signal then you can't respond to a call, you may be out on a showing or to a listing appointment in the woods, so I would suggest this but also see if they can do a quick email or IM message they come directly to phones also.
