I love New Year's Day. It's a time to reflect on the past and have new beginnings. My husband and I don't party on New Year's Eve. Instead, we visit my Aunt Yolanda in South Philly on New Year's Day and spend time with the family. It brings back childhood memories of visiting my grandmother on New Year's Day. Every year, my father, mother, sister and myself would make the trip to Board Street to watch the Mummer's Parade and when we were cold and hungry, head for my grandmother's house. There we'd feast on all kinds of food and hot soup. Most of the family would be there. Probably around 35 people. My mother and father both came from large Italian families. I have around 100 cousins. Of course, times have changed and everyone has their own life to live. Last year, my husband and I were all set to watch the parade before visiting my aunt. However, the parade was cancelled due to rain. We'll see what today brings. The Parade has been postponed until noon because of early morning rain. Not sure yet if we're going to watch the parade in person or just relax with the family and watch it on TV. We'll see.
I have much to be grateful for. I have a wonderful husband, great kids, beautiful grandchildren and my health. I had breast cancer 3 1/2 years ago and am completely recovered. I changed my lifestyle and my diet. But that's another story.
I wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
