Portsmouth NH ~ Beautiful Fresh Snow Pictures

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Shoreline - NH and Maine NH and Maine Broker

If you love snow, then come on up to New Hampshire!  As of yesterday, we broke a record for the most snow to fall in NH in December.  That old record of 43 inches of snow in December, set way back in 1876, was broken yesterday afternoon, December 31, 2007.  The total for this December reached 44.5 inches of the fluffy white stuff.

Of course, not all of the state actually broke that record, and some parts of NH went well over that record amount.  Concord NH, our state capitol, where the measurements for the state are recorded, is where the 44.5 inches was taken from.

Snow Covered Trees - Portsmouth NH - Ann Cummings 2007

Being here in Portsmouth, along the Seacoast area, we had less than that, but far more than we normally get in any one month.  As a matter of fact, we've actually already had more snow here than we generally get all winter long!

We had a beautiful fluffy snow fall yesterday here in Portsmouth New Hampshire, and I thought I would share some pictures I took just walking around my yard.

The magical beauty of freshly fallen snow really has to be experienced in person.

The peaceful quiet and calm stillness that you feel in a fresh snow just can't be captured in pictures, and nor can the real beauty of what I really see when I look at through my eyes instead of through the camera.

To see the fluffy white snow coating all these trees and branches is really just beautiful.  It stays looking like that until either a wind comes along and blows it off or until the temperature rises and it all starts melting.  But until then, it's just beautiful to look at!

The snow that covered all the bushes and trees framed my house so beautifully yesterday morning - I couldn't help but take these pictures to share!

Snowy Side of House - Portsmouth NH - Ann Cummings 2007      Snow Covered Birdfeeders - Portsmouth NH - Ann Cummings 2007

Each of my bird feeders has about 4 to 6 inches of snow on their roofs....now to hike out there through the snow to fill them up!

When the snow coats everything like our last snow did, it creates such a magical scene everywhere you look.  These pictures really don't do what I was seeing justice....  you just really have to see these shows of Mother Nature first hand!

I hope you've enjoyed these pictures of Portsmouth NH - my treat to you on New Year's Day!!

Wishing all of us the very best in 2008 - health, happiness, peacefulness, prosperity, and joy!

Hi Jeanean - I do really marvel at the beauty of a freshly fallen snow, especially the fluffy kind, but I do reach a point when I've had enough, and we've certainly had more than enough here for me!  I sorta understand your husband preferring to stick to the CA climates.  I'm not ready to move from here, but I know plenty of people who do find warmer climates for the winter months.

Happy New Year to you!

Brian - I'm glad you enjoyed them!  They're even more beautiful when you see them in person.

Becky - looking at those pictures online saves you from the cold weather needed for snow.  And we do have sun - it's sunny today, and the temperature right now is only 9 degrees -- brrrrrrr!  Your warmth down in Florida would be a welcome respite right about now!

Thanks for the comments!

Hi Eloise - glad you enjoyed my pictures!  Your town must have been very pretty last year.

Hey Jay - poetry in motion?  I've got one you can borrow.....   ;-)

Hi Kim - yep, I've had way more than enough at this point!  We're so far ahead of what we normally get in a whole winter.  Snow budgets blown, or about to be blown, for sure!  Thanks for reading!

Ann,

Isn't it an amazing winter!?  I'm down here just north of Boston and I find it amazing.  A few weeks ago I put up a post for those that didn't have the luxury of getting this much snow.  You have some beautiful pictures!  This was my back yard a few weeks ago.

Ann, what great photos. Hope you are staying toasty warm in that record snowy area, you call home. Those birds are definitely depending on you to track out and fill them up! Your photos gave that feeling of peacefulness and beauty. Thanks for sharing the beauty with us.

Martin - you're just north of Boston so I must be just north of you.  I'll have to check your profile to see where you are.  The picture of your backyard would fit right in with pictures of my own yard - very pretty.

Hi Gena - toasty warm indeed, even though the price of heating oil is ridiculous this winter.  I do keep my birdies happy out at Annie's Restaurant in my backyard.  That's what Bear, my honey, calls all my bird feeders.  I'm glad you got the feelings I was trying to convey with my pictures - that's exactly what it does feel like!

Joseph - you're very welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed them!  We've got rainy warmer weather now, so most of that pretty snow in these pictures is all melted at this point.  But it sure was beautiful when I took those pictures!
