Sam Houston Memorial Museum Complex: The Law Office

Check out Sam Houston's Law Office located on the grounds of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum Complex. From what I understand, no women or children were allowed inside Sam's Law Office. YIKES! I guess that meant that women didn't get in trouble back then -- or else we got away with it! ☺ Visit The Law Office for yourself and find out!!

The 18 acre Sam Houston Memorial Museum Complex is located at Sam Houson Avenue and 19th Street in Huntsville, Texas.

Sam Houston's office is so tiny.  He must have keep his law books someplace else.  So nice that his office has been maintained for all to see.

That's a fascinating picture ---- but back then, they probably had fewer laws, fewer cases, hence, fewer books. I'd love an office like that in my backyard :)

They probably didn't need much space because Texas used to hang just about everybody that got into trouble.  As for the women, they were probably just smarter so they didn't get caught.

Probably didn't have the fees and contingencies that require so much more space today!  :-)

Joni, as amazing as it is the way it used to be, we're flying leaps and bounds into the future. I wonder what it holds?

Joni - Love history posts like this. You do have a lot of historical sites around you and this post is a very good overview of how to do a great localism post. Congrats and have a great weekend.

Joni- having been born and raised in Houston, Sam Houston is a name I know well.  But, I've never been to the Sam Houston Memorial Complex.  I may have to put that on my agenda next time I'm in Houston.

I'm thinking that old habits die hard, when it comes to the equality/inequality of women in the U.S.  Ol' Sam .. back in his day ... they just TALKED about it and got away with it.  Real change comes hard ... and definitely slowly ...

Loved the historic pic ...

Joni, hmm not sure my family would have used a lawyer that didn't allow women there. As Lenn says, how far we've come.

Lenn: That is very true.

Kevin: Actually, I would be willing to bet that he did. Perhaps he didn't hate women, but clearly he felt that they had no place in the business world.

Pam: There's lots of things to do, even if you are not a history nut!

Karen: I have posted many posts on these buildings. I have one in draft that ties them all together for next week.

Mike: We have several around the Huntsville area too!

Bob: You're badddd! :)

Joan: I doubt they kept tons of files like we do today. ☺

Laughing out LOUD at Myrl! ☺ ☺ ☺

Dale: They tried, and hung. No files necessary. :O)

Anita: HA! You should see the house that it was in front of!

Leslie: I'm pretty sure that it was the pretty much the same way everywhere back then.

Joan: I really don't feel that way, but I'm sure it still goes on.

Thanks, Q.

Donald: Me too. We hope to build one on our land soon. Just a LITTLE bigger than this one. :)

Jennifer: It would!

Evelyn: There are several of his homes, a kitchen and the law office on these grounds. Not to mention the museum and the education center.

Pacita: That is exactly what I thought!

Gabe: AMEN!

BLiz: No need. Present the case, verdict, set free or hang. ☺

Eric: I read the book. God wins! ☺

Robert and Lisa: Thank you.

Gene: We've come a long way!

Tammie: I'm sure they did what they had to do.

Bud and Beth: I stayed in one not much bigger in Eureka Springs, AR overlooking the White River and it was WONDERFUL!

Thank you, Erica

It's amazing how much more space we seem to "need" these days. Nice post, thanks.

Thanks for sharing this with us Joni, in some small towns near here there are real estate offices that look very similar to this, only difference is that they have more windows.
