Rockin' the Suburbs... Oh YES, we are! I just returned from NAR's mid-year legislative conference in Washington DC and what a busy week it was. My Realtor buddies and I stormed the Capitol sharing important talking points with our Congressmen on why Homeownership Matters! But that wasn't the fun part...
There were 13,985 Realtors that attended the Rally to Protect the American Dream last Thursday at the Washington Monument in DC. It was a sunny day with beautiful blue skies, and the landscape of Realtors in blue shirts provided a sea of solidarity. We were rockin' the suburbs of Washington DC and propagating the message that Homeownership Matters!
I've attended many NAR Conferences in my thirteen years of being a Realtor, and I can honestly say that I've taken away something positive each time and have used it in my business. The sessions are always packed with a plethora of interesting topics and there's never a dull moment. It also provides an opportunity to get a pulse on real estate happenings from fellow colleagues around the country... assuring you that you're still alive, or perhaps ready to be buried in the next wave of things ;)))
I enjoyed a walking tour of General Washington's beautiful estate at Mt Vernon. Our first President was quite the entrepreneur. I also visited the Holocaust Museum, which was a very gut-wrenching experience... I literally felt sick to my stomach thinking about the horrendous things we humans do to other humans... I was truly at a loss for words and still am.
Every time I renew, replenish and refuel my spirit, I feel energized to continue blazing a path on my Realtor trail. There's no doubt about it... I'm a true optimist, and I'm thoroughly excited about what the future holds for you and me and real estate. We'reRockin' the Suburbs... Oh YES, we are!
Mel, I think I saw you there...you were in a blue shirt with an R on it, right? Just kidding. Thank you for attending and representing those of us who were unable to go, I'd love to hear some of what you learned while there. You are ever-awesome Mel!
Wasn't that Rally really something! I'm glad I made it there too! Anyone and everyone who has an opportunity to do something like this in the future must make every effort to get there. It was a very moving experience for me too! I also wrote about the experience a few blog posts ago (twice now) and I see others have too. It's really great to read about the experience others had and even though it's sad that our paths didn't cross in D.C. (or did they?) I'm glad we're all on the same path because Home ownership really does matter!!!
You had me going for a minute there... Wanda! Incidentally, my best friend... Wanda... manages to pull my chain every time! I told the President you were off doing more important business... like selling homes... he sends his regards ;)))
Sweet... Cheryl! Yes, I stayed a little longer than most, as we did some lobbying with our Congressmen ;)
Yes it was... Patricia! Sorry I missed ya... we could have really done some damage in downtown DC :))) I'm glad you made made the trek all the way from Texas... you rock girlfriend!
Mel- congratulations on your feature and for going to Washington to represent Realtors. Washington DC is one of my favorite places and could go back once a year to take in all of the museums and historic sites.
Ditto... Kathy! I love the cool vibe in DC... so many good places to see, eat and chill ;) Even though I'm totally not a political gal, I liked visiting my Congressmen and chatting about home-ownership issues. They need to hear from their constituents!
Yep... that's what we do... Eric! Great song indeed ;)))
Gotta step away from the biz every now and then and refuel. Even though this was a business trip, I had plenty of opportunity to chill with friends... Cindy!
Nick... you gotta get to one of these... I mean it! You'll take away lots of cool info and the camaraderie is fantastic!
Mel, I am sorry I was unable to attend with all the closings and inspections going on here in my area. I did reach out to my congressional delegates and senator's though. Living on the East coast I have made many trips to DC. It is a great town to visit and see real history and great free museums. Thank you for representing us so well. I am thrilled you had a wonderful time.
You really are a continuing breath of fresh air and optimism. I appreciate all the Realtors who took part in the Rally, so thank you. I will check out the Fancam, per Brian.

Mel, sounds like you had a fantastic time at the NAR Rally! Rockin' the Suburbs, eh? There's a song called that, by Ben Folds Five. Great song!
Hi Mel, What a great opportunity to renew and recharge! I have huge respect for those that go and represent us..so thank you.
No prob... Donald! I'm always happy to do it!

Thanks, Mel, for carrying the Realtor flag for me and hundreds of thousands of other Realtors to Washington, D. C.
Mel, that was quite a turn out of REALTORS®. I hope our leaders listened. Thanks.
Mel, I think it's pretty exciting to be where history has been made and being a part of making it! Keep up the good work.

This was a great opportunity to go and do this. Kudos to you. I hope to to be able to do this one day!
Happy to do it... John! Although... next time, I wanna see your bootie out there ;)))
We were pleased with the turn-out Michael... I think NAR anticipated 10,000 total.
Me too... Adrian! I'm surprised that NAR has never done a Rally of Realtors prior to this!
Lucky for you... Larry! Congrats on the closings and perhaps we'll see ya next year!
You'll love it... Sandy! BTW... I used to live in Ventura County ;-)
You really are a continuing breath of fresh air and optimism. I appreciate all the Realtors who took part in the Rally, so thank you. I will check out the Fancam, per Brian.
"Homeownership Matters" Rock on....
How fascinating a trip talking about REALTORS Mel and to see Mount Vernon also must have been a pleasure.
I have not yet attended an NAR event. I love attending my State convention. Sounds like you had a great time.
Thanks Debb! I chatted with Gayle today... we're on for Fishhawk Lake soon! You rock too!
Both were spectacular... Gary!
Oh my goodness... Paula! You've got to attend one soon!
