Good Morning Healthy Oatmeal with Dried Cranberries

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty Executives -BRIO

This recipe I created because while oatmeal is healthy on it's own, I wanted maximize the benefits in one easy to make bowl for a warm, healthy start on the day.

Good Morning Healthy Oatmeal with Dried Cranberries

In a bowl:

1/4 C. of Oatmeal (good for controlling cholesterol)

1/4 C. of Dried Cranberries (Anti-oxidants) In the summer I use fresh blueberries

1/4 t. of Cinnamon (Good for moderating blood sugar)

1/4 C. of water (you could use milk, or soy milk too)

Microwave for 2.5 minuets

Add:

2 T. of Ground Flax-seed (Omega 3 oil)

2 T. Chopped Walnuts (Protein & Omega 3 oil)

1 packet of equal (or sweeten to taste with sugar, brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup)

Makes one serving...enjoy!

If one of your New Year's Resolutions is to eat healthier, then this is a good way to begin the New Year and the morning!

LOL that is almost EXACTLY my oatmeal recipe. I can usually get it boiling away and ready to eat while I feed the cat and the dog (tossing a few cranberries for her to catch) and making a cuppa- then log into AR to see who is up and check the newspaper online.

I just got the flaz seed, so I haven't tried that one yet. But Mom says do it, so I will.

Have a happy new year!

Hi Sarah, LOL....great minds think alike!

Hey, try it in the microwave oven...no pan to wash and you don't have to worry about it boiling over!  Yep, coffee is a must, and I am feeding Sammy, my Moluccan Cockatoo her eggs while my coffee and oatmeal are dripping and microwaving away.  Similar mornings too!

I'm sure that's great, but...  I had poison oak when I was 2 (bad enough to be in the hospital) and do you remember what they used to put on poison oak?  Yep, Oatmeal.  To this day just the smell of it makes me sick.  And I'm 40 now!  I don't even have a memory of being in the hospital... but I remember the smell.

Hi Chris, oh that is a terrible memory, I don't blame you one bit!

Funny how a childhood aversion (in your case a very strong one) can effect us still.  I can't even think of eating beets without feeling, well let's say nauseous, because of the canned beets I grew up with and had to eat, not very often though thank goodness!

This sounds like a good recipe. When I make oatmeal I usually put apple juice instead of milk and then sliced banana. Then I microwave it and at vanilla yogurt on top. It's really good.
