 Morris County, NJ Frelinghuysen Arboretum

 Morris County’s Frelinghuysen Arboretum is a site to behold as the spring flowers and trees are beginning to bloom. If you are a nature lover, gardener, photographer, like to walk and/or learn about the plants, vegetables and flowers indigenous to North Jersey, take some time and stop by Morris County’s Arboretum.

 

Within the Arboretum is the Haggerty Education Center providing continuing horticultural educational programs for the general public. On the property is the beautiful mansion of  the late Matilda Frelinghuysen who spent her summers here from 1887-1969 with her family.

 

Matilda had always been an avid gardener and decided upon her death she would dedicate her home and property which already contained many beautiful gardens of flowers, vegetables, and a variety of plants to the people of Morris County as a public arboretum. In 1971, the arboretum was dedicated to the public and it has been a work in progress ever since.

 

Rather than tell you more about the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, I’d rather show you with the photos I’ve taken over the years. It’s one of my favorite places to escape the daily grind and walk the vast property taking photos of the ever changing flora and fauna.
