26 Comments on Therapy Anyone?
Hi Jay. We were just having a conversation the other day that without face-to-face or verbal contact, written communication such as texting and emails are so often misinterpreted.
Thanks Leslie. My mom did spend a lot of time teaching me manners, but sometimes I just want to go ape.
Linda - while I hate the new society's form of "communication," which is nothing of the sort, the message I am sending is in the photo!
This is very true of email or text. Unless you hear back that the message was received and absorbed, you often wonder if something went wrong with the transmission.
Hence, Kathryn, so much electronic misunderstanding. Is my message in the photo clear? Not sent to you, of course...
That is one reason I often request a read receipt when sending an important email. And they are often ignored. I would like to send that same message at times.
Well said, Jay. I love email for quick communication, but I do get concerned when time lapses without a response. Then I wonder if I've met the second condition in your list. That is normally followed up by a call. Which begs the question, "Why didn't I just call to start with?" 8-)
Hi Jay - It's a shame you clouldn't complete that particular communication by giving the gorilla a bit of feedback.
I like to use email as confirmation of the details from the discussion we just had so that I essentially have a written memo of what we agreed on verbally.
Jay, Great analogy and nice pic. I think I have got the message a few times ; )
Jay - Words are often a very inadequate method of communication, and the animal kingdom seems to have mastered the art of expressing themselves non-verbally.
Jim - I bet! I want to send it often, like right now to a couple of people (not on this site...)
Mike - it is great to get the same message to many people at the same time. I sent a photo of the knee injection to my kids, without caring if I got a response or not. And I got a response from them all!
Dick - I could have! As you may know, those "safari" buses do not have windows, so I could have hung out the side very well. The rest of the bus might not have enjoyed it though. And Magilla may have attacked!
J&R - confirmation would be the end of the loop! So you are the respondee.
Don - and I have given that message a few times! Literally. Once to a soccer goalie when everyone's attention was directed the other way. He got it though!
They have John, and you go best with what works! They do it pretty well.
You know what happens when you "ass u me"....and sending email can be just that !
And, S&D, ASSuming that someone got the email is just as bad... Hence my post.
Morning Jay sir communication is the name of the game. Just think of what this world would be without it. Enjoy the day
Thanks James. Some things are communication and other things are called "communication," but are not!
Jay -- what you are pointing out is the difference between a monologue and a dialogue. Not to be confused with a diatribe.
Or a broadside gorilla polemic Steven. You are right there!
I'm thinking that e-mail is not the only media that lacks the required elements. If the message is unsolicited, most often one or more of the elements will be missing. Hard not to get SOME reaction face to face.... or at least face to.... whatever.
It surely isn't Brad, but try to get kids these days to interact in a social setting. Or while all together in a restaurant or sitting at a table celebrating a birthday. It is interesting to watch.
