I had a professor in college who’s email used to be noexcuses@aol.com. He didn’t want to hear them. None at all. If you didn’t do something that was your fault. “Own that fault” he sometimes said.
I hear a lot of excuses from agents when I am on the road. In fact I have heard many agents blame others for the failure of their business.
“Linda has been working in this town forever and she takes all of the business from the rest of us.”
“I was told in six months I would be making a lot of money. I’m not making much at all.”
“My company doesn’t do enough for me.”
“I’m not very good with the computer thing.”
Whatever the excuses are, I swear I have heard most of them. Frankly, I’m tired of it. In 2008, I hope to send everyone who gives me an excuse

Does this sound too harsh? Good! I think it is time we get harsh. We know from the National Association of Realtors that only 20% of agents are earning 90% of the commissions. That is a lot of dead weight out there. It’s time that the real estate industry starts shaping up and starts to provide real value to our homeowners. Let’s pretend our jobs depend on it because
THEY DO.

In fact, let’s make this a pledge--the kick in the butt we need--as we start out this new year. If you are a manager of an office and have two or three agents who constantly make up excuses, send this blog to your entire office. If you, yourself, have made up an excuse in the past 72 hours, tack this blog up above your desk. It’s time we get real about our business.

Great post, thanks. I agree that excuses shouldn't be used. It will always be a tough market and tough everything but you have to conquer! Good luck in 2008!
