Really - this is how you market a home?

I honestly can not believe what some people are placing on the web as a marketing tool.  I visited Trulia and found this home....It was priced nicely....so I clicked and this picture was the very first picture that came up  - How lovely, peeling deck...are you serious...why would you include this picture in your market packet ?

This picture has a black garbabe bag and boxes.. oh and a cat sleeping on a chair....that would really spark my interest in buying this house....clutter, clutter, clutter.

With over 75% of people shopping on line for a house...why would you market a house with these photos??  Your in the field of selling real estate..what makes a person think that some one would see this house on line and say "Oh this is the home that we have been looking for"   This is what homes should look like when marketing in photos..... It should be always prepared for the photo opportunity...Clutter should be always removed....Take only pictures of the best feature of a home....There is no reason, why the above before mentioned should have every been in the mix.

That deck is not peeling. It is an art deco. The cat died a week ago and is stuffed and makes no noise. You are really too tough on these photos. Pictures, light the corner of our minds.

Sometimes the home has no other redeeming qualities and you have to have some pictures!  I do getyour point however if it is a non-distressed sale.

I would only imagine its a distressed property sold "As-Is"....and the photos give an investor a snapshot of what condition property is actually in..i have dislcosed a distressed property and shot photos of all the defects..such as roof, siding, stained carpeting...etc. That way,,they have a better idea of what theyre investing in....I totally understand your point of view....generally, showcase the property...but there are occasions to best illustrate actual condition. Thanks for sharing....Mike in Chicago

Erv, great humor.....  I did make my point....I see pictures of homes like this all the time....why make them look a bit more appealing for even investors...come on...Mike....we are still trying to sell...

The only thing worse than putting a listing on the market with no picture is putting it on with pictures like these.  Each on of these could have easily been remedied even if the agent had to shift the clutter himself before shooting the photo.  Remember the old adage you only have one chance to make a good first impression.  Great observation.

Great post Corrine! I've done posts like that after perusing MLS! I came up with a top ten every month for a while, which is pretty scary... Keep up the fantastic Staging job!

Corinne, I think what Raymond means is just that. Though I have come across several homes that are short sales, especially low end ones, you are going to see such a thing. Whether it's right or wrong it's just the fact. I personally try to take the best shot possible, but what are you going to do with a frig. parked in the dining room along with an extra stove of some sort?
