When I bring up the subject of staging, some sellers feel that their decorating style is being criticized.  Not true at all! 

A decorated house is for you to live in and enjoy - a staged home is meant to bring in a buyer who will live in and enjoy the home!

As professional home stagers, we often explain that the difference between decorating and staging is that decorating is done for the homeowner's taste and style, and staging is done to attract the target buyer.  When it's time to put your home on the market, making a few changes in how your home is perceived can have a positive effect on maximizing your equity (after all, that's the bottom line when you're selling).

Our Portland OR home staging company was selected for a recent staging project that was multi-layered.  This spectacular property is located in an exclusive Portland suburb, and the sellers asked for our help in several areas:

  • Select new paint colors for several rooms where updated warm neutral colors would make a difference to the target buyer
  • Convert one of the bedrooms that had been used as a home gym into a guest bedroom, so that buyers would find value in seeing another bedroom in this large home (we had the gym moved to a bonus room where it fit perfectly)
  • Provide assistance in packing up small collectibles that could distract buyers from looking at all of this home's wonderful architectural features; send any excess furniture to storage so that each room looked as spacious as possible
