Here is another event that makes the Columbia and Ellicott City areas special!  The Turf Valley Resort Preakness Balloon Festival is a blast for adults and kids of all ages! 

The evening festival is Friday, May 17th from 4-9pm and the morning balloon launches are Friday and Saturday the 18th at 6:30 am.  The evening festival is really fun – food, crafts, music and you can take a balloon ride.  It’s tethered but still – what a treat!

 Turf Valley

 When my son was little and up really early in the morning –we would go to the festival for the 6:30 am balloon launch!  We’d roll out out bed, grab a cup of coffee (me not him) and watch fifteen huge, colorful hot air balloons float up into the sunrise! Even if you aren’t usually an early riser –once a year you have to do it!

For the evening events – you must park at the nearby Howard County Fairgrounds and take a $5.00 shuttle over to the festival. For the morning launch – you can park at Turf Valley located at 2700 Turf Valley Road, Ellicott City, MD 21042. Check out their website for more details.

Ellie, one of these days I too will attend a hot air balloon festival. I just love the way these great giants move through the sky almost silently and so colorful. Hope you will have fun!

How fun! I've always wanted to see them in person.  If I were close to one I'd be there for sure.  I wonder if there are any events like this in New England?  I'll have to google it :)  Have fun!

Hi Ellie...Great job spreading the word about this fun event.  Hot air balloons are beautiful.  The colors against a blue sky adds to the visual and the fun of going up, even for a tether ride, is something to remember.  We were lucky enough to go to the Big Lift Off in Albuquerque a number of years ago and will never forget it.

You're having wonderful weather for this so hope they are having a wonderful turnout.
