For the last three years we have tried every year to visit every park in town.... to no avail. We were <SO> close last summer visiting all but one. The one? It happens to be a park geared toward bicyclists. Seeing as we have one riding okay and one with training wheels it just hasn't been the easiest park to visit.bike path at hillside park

That changed this spring. We had good reason to visit the park (which I'll revisit later) and it finished up up! We can now say that we have explored, played in, driven past (because some are unable to be used) every park in town.

The tradition continues as we've already been to a handful of fun places this spring. Will we once again follow through on our exploration project? I'm not sure. We may try our hand a visiting all the parks  in a different community this summer... or maybe all the County Parks. The discussion is open.

Tina in HillsideIn the meantime I thought I'd show you what's hidden in the hills of Hillside Park. Besides the 'dangerous to a 6-year old' looking bike tracks you can visit Tina. Tina is a sculpture that was  created from an old car that sat on the hillside long ago when it was the city dump. Not seen from the road you would never know she's there, but with a little ingenuity and a map it isn't so hard.

If you are looking for an adventure in the city limits this one might be just for you. Whether on bike or on foot there is much in this great park to see and explore. If nothing else I hope that you can stop by and see the great biking trails that cut in and out of the trees. The jumps and tricks appear to be pretty spectacular and the kids loved watching the bikes dart in and out of the trails.

Not incredibly far from city central, shopping, and housing developments this park is tucked up wonderfully. It is truly a gorgeous spot to visit. You might want to watch the calendar and avoid a race day (especially if you are going to visit on foot) but it's worth the effort to stop by.

If you are interested in moving to the ElK River area (or moving out of the Elk River area) give me a call. It might have taken me many years to find the statue of Tina, but other than that I know the area very very well!

Hi Lindsey, This park looks very soothing and dispite the possible bikes charging through, looks like a great venue for a " Walk in the Park"

I think Tina is really cool. This park reminds me of Jesus who takes junk and turns it in to art. :)

Hi Lindsey~Hillside Park is my fav, I got there every year with my mountain bike, it's a blast! Being that I'm getting up there in years I stay off of some of the tricky parts, but it's still a great work-out.

Have an AWESOME evening!

William - Yes, I'd like to explore it more. We were only there for about a half hour. :)

Joni - That is a great way to see it! We were completely surprised at what Tina looked like, but I like your viewpoint!

Michael - I'd like to take the bikes sometime. Is there a map of the park that shows which trails are less invasive? My kids would love to bike there too, but they were freaked out looking at the complicated trails scared 'em.
