When your kid is being bullied and you go to do something about it, you will run into the systems that are ineffective and cannot help you. That is just the way it is for now but doesn't have to be. The authorities, the police and the school will try to cause you to doubt what you know to be right in your heart making you out to be the problem instead of the bully picking your kid...

MANDATORY ATTENDANCE MAKES YOU LIABLE NO QUESTION ABOUT IT

Here is the obvious mandate. If you require mandatory attendance to educate kids in school, then you must be responsible for those children in every way imaginable. There can be no risk of danger implied or expressed. No un-safe conditions must exist and furthermore, food, sanitation, and transportation as well as supervision is supplied and required..

THE SWORD CUTS BOTH WAYS

If a parent is going to submit to all that, then the administration has to have their feet kept to the fire. When someone complains of being harassed, then that should be swiftly followed up and the one being accused is held accountable. This works even were there is a question of guilt or not. A policy where if a kid has ten complaints, then further singled out punishment must be applied so as to protect the remaining children who are cooperating. Apply the right pressure in the right place

A PLACE OF LEARNING...NOT GLADIATOR SCHOOL

A school must be a place of learning of education and while doing that... forming friendships and memories that we will carry our whole life time. This system cannot fail or be compromised. Now where it gets dicey is where the poor are concerned. It is too costly to police, hold accountable or even get the parent involved.  Consequently the kids run the school until there is a tragedy or a lock down. In the rougher areas, people join gangs for protection. Its remains an effective option too I am afraid

THE LAST THING ON CAMPUS IS FEAR OF ANY SORT

You cannot have it both ways. If our current systems make it mandatory to attend school, then it is mandatory to cure and correct all problems that surface and not at the cost on any student attending. Every teacher is to assist with supporting the rules as well as the administration. Local police should have representatives on campus at all times amongst the children no exceptions

THIS IS YOUR CHILD WHO DEPENDS ON YOU

I don't want to hear about expenses, impossible to curtail, high maintenance and ongoing problems. Either the system is set-up to do what it is supposed to do or pull your kid out of school and look to home or private schooling as a safer source. Don't let your child become scarred for life for any reason...

POLICE OR SCHOOL OFFICIALS KIDS

One last thing here. I would bet serious money that no school officials kid gets harassed, no police officers kid gets picked or some politican's kid either.  I want whatever they got going to be used on all kids attending. Equal rights and remedies across the board. ZERO TOLERANCE on this subject

MAKE THE SCHOOLS SAFER PERIOD

As I go through life, there are just certain things that are not acceptable now or forever. If I see anyone beating up on anybody, an injustice or a trauma taking place in any way, that is a NO-NO. You are only a kid for a short time, I will not submit anyone to post traumatic stress from going to school. America should cure this problem first before trying to help others around the globe

thank you

Thank you for your impassioned thoughts on bullying.  I find it encouraging that the subject is currently being talked about, but horrifying that it occurs so frequently.  Personally I am at a loss for why this activity goes unchecked so often by those placed in charge.

When my older son was still in HS, a smaller boy was getting beaten up by a bully.  The teachers were no where to be found.  My son (who was always strong and large for his age) pulled the bully off and stopped the fight.  For his efforts he was reprimanded.  Although every child present told the teachers (when they went and got them) that my son had stopped the fight, they wanted my son disciplined due to their supposed "zero tolerance" for fighting policy.  NO SIR-EEE!  I was very proud of him then as I am know.

In the interest of full disclosre - we homeschool our younger son.  :-)

Hello Kristen...I know your boy..He is called a hero and they are found all over the world in places where they are needed the most. The world, other peoples opinions and dark forces will do everything they can to discourage heroes...but they cannot stop the heart of a person who loves right...Your son case in point...Bravo, well done and homeschooling is the way to go until things change not just so much from bully's, but the system itself makes you stupider...BUT..that's another post. My deepest and highest best to you and yours...thank you Kristen...Your boy has a man's destiny in store for him

Thank you Richie. :-)  Yes, we have so many reasons to homeschool, but as you said that is another post.
