Thank you very much, but...dang, who has the time?

By
Real Estate Agent with Bridge Realty - Mankato

I must say you guys are very generous in your welcome.  For that I thank you.

But seriously, do you find that the time you spend here is worth it?  With kids at home to spend time with, not to mention my lovely wife, and all the other marketing, follow up and everything else that goes into trying to make it as an agent in this kind market, I hardly have time to breathe!

Your thoughts on the best way to use this place, or the best resources you've discovered, will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Jim, I ask myself the same thing and concluded to limit my time daily to about 20 minutes. I have earned new business though this network and have come across many key resources, so it is useful.

But, I stick to business. You won't hear me chime in about my new tennnis shoes, or my new year's resolutions.

My service is email and print newsletters -- to help you save time -- so you can spend more time with your family.

hi jim,  like everything else in this business, you just need to allocate a certain amount of time to AR, and then stick with it.  After getting things set up and started on here, i generally only spend one day a week on AR.  Monday's are usually my internet day were i update all my online info and website.

Jim--I have learned so much on AR.  When I first joined I was slightly overwhelmed by the amount of information Realtors were willing to share with each other.  I have not made blogging a priority, but I still learn something every single time I login.

I agree with the ROI and time issues.  I don't blog everyday, and if people have the time and it brings them more money that is great.  It has been effective for me, so I will keep doing it.  I also agree that you could spend HOURS blogging, so set a time limit and get it done.  I tend to write 3-4 blog posts in one day, at one sitting, and then just post them throughout the week.  That works for me.  That way I always have a reserve of blogs written, if nothing engaging happens that I have to write about.

I'm newer here as well. I think from jumping around and just reading posts and asking some questions it is worth it. I'm sure the more you use it the more local contacts you will make and soon enough it will be worth it in the money return side as well, but until i get anything monetary out of AR, I will continue to enjoy the blogging!

Hello?  Jim?  You still out there somewhere?

Guess he didn't expect such a huge response...either that or we scared him off.

Jim, if you are reading this, it's time to respond to 77 people.  LOL!

Welcome to Active Rain!

Jim, If you stick with it, AR can become a huge source of business for you. Today, I received a call from a lady relocating here in Gerogia.  She said your the "featured" agent in my area of interest and I want you. Doesnt get much better than that.

Good People,

I want to thank you all for your advice and your warm welcome!

Amanda's right: your response has been a bit overwhelming, and it brings me to my question (to me a very practical one):  How on earth do you respond to everyone?  I hear that if you don't, you might be considered rude, and I certainly don't want that.  But on the other hand, this system doesn't seem to be that user-friendly for replying, either.

Does posting like this go to everyone, and does that count as a reply?  Or is it expected that you reply to everyone individually?  I don't object to that idea, certainly, but time constraints might make it a bit problematic, and I don't want to offend anyone.  As far as I can tell now, it's a bit of a Catch-22.

So, bear with me while I try to get my bearings, please.  And if you have advice on how to negotiate the reply-to-everyone minefield, I'll be grateful...

Thanks!

Jim, I responded to your email with a very long email answering your questions and it came back to me.

Something about a relay not accepting emails?

Basically, there are many differing opinions about how we should conduct ourselves on our blogs and everyone has their own personality. Certainly, you do not want to be spending hours and hours here like the rest of us:) When you do blogs directly for your consumers, you will not get as many comments. When you do blogs, like this one, you will get quite a few comments and it can be difficult answering them all. You can answer individually or with one general acknowledgement, depending on your thoughts to the comments. There are no set rules. Keep in mind what your priorities are for blogging. You might want to read the blogs Rich Jacobson and many others have done on this subject. This site is still in a learning stage and we are all learning as we go.

Karen,

I don't know why it would bounce, but you have my apologies.  Did it go to jim@mankatohomesonline.com ?  Maybe, if you don't mind, you could forward it again...

If I understand you correctly, a reply in a blog string might be sufficient, but the option of replying individually works too.  If you reply individually, just replying through Outlook or whatever works, I assume.

Thanks!

And be well!

Oh yeah!!! I hear you. I asked myself the same thing when I first started reading blogs and looking for different topics. I myself have three girls, one is a very active two year old. I do a lot of bpo's and drive around with her taking pictures in the early hours.then is the reports, the clients, the other two girls who get home from school, the husband, the dinner, the rottweiller and the cat. I have found however that I make the time, I am new but I love it and usually late at night when everyone is sleep and everything is done, I enjoy reading and learning more and more about AR. Its addictive.

Especially in a market like this one, doing anything that sets you apart from the pack of competitors has value.  You're doing the right thing by being here.
