Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of American (NACA) is a non-profit organization that offers an Affordable Mortgage Program for people with less-than-perfect credit.
Counselors sit down with applicants and look at income, expenses, and credit. If the applicant has a serious credit problem, NACA will work with them to get them on track for home ownership.
Key points about the program ( View NACA's Ten Steps to Home Ownership )
- Prospective home buyers must attend a homebuyer workshop & meet with a NACA counselor (free)
- The interest rate is equal to or slighly LOWER than the going rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage
- No down payment is required
- The bank pays most of the closing costs
- Most times the buyer only needs to come up with the the first year's property tax & homeowners insurance, plus $500 for the attorney and inspection fees.
- Buyers must participate in five NACA activities per year.
