SEO for VideoAs we are well aware by now, YouTube is the world's second largest search engine with over 4 billion videos now watched each day.  This means that it is an awesome way to gain exposure for your business online.

However, what most do not realize is that there are some basic principles to creating your videos that if followed will make them more popular to the search engines and increase your overall views exponentially.

At first I thought this was a theory until I recently did a video of my daughter and a new toy that she received for Christmas called a My Baby Alive.  This is one of the more strange toys she has ever received as it pees & poops.  I wanted to see if search engine optimization mattered or not, so I tested my theory on this video by doing a little keyword research and then implementing it into my video before uploading to YouTube.

Here's a quick tutorial on what I did:

So, if you apply some basic SEO principles to your video, I really feel you can begin to increase the number of views your videos receive.  Have you ever tried applying these principles when uploading a video to YouTube?

Hi Jeremy - I have done this to some extent on my videos, but I think the key (no pun intended) is to figure out the right title and key words to get people to look at a video of a listing.

Thanks so much Jeremy, great info. One question- you mention putting the keywords in BEFORE uploading. Will I benefit if I go back and improve my keywords on videos I have posted months ago? Should do, right?

Jeremy:

I am going to try your suggestions in my YouTube video.  Is using your URL in keywords a good idea as #20 Eric Estate mentioned?

Jeremy

Thanks for some great tips which can easily be implemented with a little thought.

Quite franklly I am amazed that that many people are looking at a video about a doll that pees and poops and happens to be blonde (blond), but that's just me. My kids are grown so I am clearly not in the "in group." LOL

Hi Jeremy- simply but essential great info... now, of course, all I have to do is to make a video!

Hi Jeremy.  I sorta thought that's how it worked.  Anytime we have the option to "fill in the blank", we should use keywords, for SEO.  Thanks for confirming.

The link mentioned in #20 doesn't do really anything for SEO as the search engines do not follow those links.  They are labeled <nofollow> in the coding.

However, it is nice to put those links there to hopefully drive the views back to your website.  I do that regularly.
