"Inside Baseball - IT" - How Technology has Revolutionized America's Pastime

We still cheer for the hits and boo the umps --- but we seldom think about how, behind the scenes, baseball today is driven by technologies that determine who will play and how they’re trained.

Baseball fans and technology buffs alike can enjoy “Inside Baseball - IT,” a presentation by Red Sox IT Director Steve Conley, at the Southwest Florida Regional Technology Partnership’s annual awards banquet on May 17.

Steve is responsible for all voice, TV and computer systems for both the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Sports Group. Steve developed a system that enables the team to travel with digitized video that allows players and coaches to review any pitch in MLB at a moment’s notice. That system evolved into the high tech coaching and video analysis system installed at Jet Blue Park.

Steve will compare and contrast renovations at Fenway Park over ten years, versus the new construction at Jet Blue Park, which took only one year. He will describe the technology that makes Jet Blue Park what it is.

The Technology Partnership’s banquet is 6-9 pm May 17 at Pelican Preserve Clubhouse, 9802 Pelican Preserve Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33913.

Registration is required. Registration and sponsorship information is posted at www.swfrtp.org.

The Technology Partnership banquet also features presentation of annual awards: for Innovention and Transformation:

  • The Innovention Award, for a Southwest Florida company that has invented, improved or demonstrated an innovative and creative technology solution;
  • The Transformation Award, for an organization or business that is achieving success through application or implementation of IT to overcome a business challenge.

The Technology Partnership, a not-profit corporation, is the only organization dedicated solely to promoting the growth of the technology sector in Southwest Florida.
