Every year in May, Keller Williams Real Estate gives back to their area by doing community service work. The Dobbs Team belongs to Keller Williams Louisville East and the ongoing project is the West End Boys School.
West End Boys School is a free, private, middle school for at-risk young men. It was founded in 2005 by Robert and Debbie Blair. This is a boarding school with the boys eating their meals and sleeping here. The teachers also stay here in their “apartments”. The results that they achieve are incredible.
Barb LaMaster has been a real estate agent for a long time and has a special affinity for the boys. She coordinates our “Red Day” every May and she puts together a Christmas meal shared with the school.
We started our day off with a lunch for all to enjoy. The teachers were served first and the KW agents last. We all split off and had at least one fine gentleman at each table. And, the word, “gentleman” would be an understatement. When introduced to us, they met with a firm handshake and looked you in the eyes. At the table, their manners were impeccable. At our table, the conversation was varied, but the highlight was Nelson Mandela and Apartheid. I asked them if they understood what Apartheid meant and further discussion ensued. I was impressed.
There are always projects for people wanting to donate their time and yesterday was no exception. The school is expanding and 3 classrooms are being added. We cleaned and painted the ceiling grid in 3 rooms and the hallway. We also knocked down a temporary wall. Outside, we worked in the courtyard pulling weeds and laying down mulch. As the old saying goes, “Many hands make light work”. Our KW office also donated books for their summer reading program.
