BEYOND TIME

I write this with all good humor.

Does it seem to you that time is flying by faster than before? ...It's a little spooky, (like this photo to your left that I took not long ago)...but folks, when you think of it...isn't a "little spooky" engaging?

...The mysterious overtones of time...even though  a "little spooky", are quite intriguing....especially when you think about this...Time may be an illusion ...

Time may be an illusion ...but it must be the most convenient invention   humankind ever came up with, especially for those in the process of buying and/or selling property-

Time is the super tool for making meetings when almost everyone else does... And folks....tell me if time is not the element that helps us in  "getting organized" within the framework of how the non-ordinary real estate professional manages his/her ordinary, everyday  transactions. I say "non-ordinary" in a pat-us-on-the back sense. It takes someone special to slice time and tasks up and serve them with style. I got thinking about it...again with all good humor...and it occurred to me that .

Time is what keeps everything from happening at once !  ...

Time is what keeps everything from happening at once !!  ......What if we had not invented time?  Would we all, hundreds and thousands of us, be huddled at the closing table at 9:00AM?  Well, enough wondering. It does seem to work out. ... you just have to be careful not to get behind or ahead of yourself. I know some folks who, when slipping and sliding down a wintry slope on the morning walk with their dog, are thinking about what they did last night......and I know some folks who,on that same walk are thinking about what they are going to do by the fire later that night. ...SO...2008.... and  learning  to manage time while not getting behind or ahead of yourself...that seems like an interesting challenge....

Time Management and My 2008 Predictions. . .with time in mind

  • I predict when we get together for our staff meetings, that not only will we bring our various note pads and folders so that we can get through our staff  meetings in a "timely" manner. but that we will elect a  "designated clock watcher" to keep us moving forward and on track.
  •  I predict s/he won't be able to be all that effective given how most real estate professionals love to talk...share our business-at-hand.
  •  I predict here at Active Rain we will continue to carry that love of discussion (and learning)  to our colleagues...and spend some very late-night hours doing so...because it works.
  • I predict that trends toward sustainable innovation are timely now....

Time and the Practice of Real Estate in 2008... So what do you think of these notions about time in terms of what might/might not be  happening in real estate in your neck of the woods?

So well said.  I am working on "time" myself.  No more dwelling.  No more gossiping.  Right now, I have focus on business & family.  Immediately, I need to get to bed....

We real estate folks are always concerned with time...I'm "working on it" too...hope that 2008 shows ever-new advantages in time management.

Time management is going to be one of the main topics at our Plan Advance this year. It seems so critical to success in the start-to-finish of transactions.

JaneAnne,

I stopped by to wish you Happy New Year! My son keeps telling me that time has shortened for everyone. That our previous 24 hour day is now actually felt in a 16 hour interval! Guess that's why I feel so out of time lately! Or is it because I am trying to fit so much into time?

I predict that Asheville is going to become "the place to be" within the next couple of years. I can tell this because I am, in time, approximately 12-14 hours away and can see it from a distance! Get ready for a busy time! Peace.

There are a number of physicists who agree with your son. I met and spent some time with one of them, Peter Russell...You might like to read some of his books and surprise your son with your acumen on the subject of time =)...  Here's a quick shot for ya' A Singularity in Time - Accelerating Change, 2012 and Beyond

I agree with you about Asheville...hope that you will come visit soon! All the Best to you in 2008...and THX for the work you do here at AR.

janeAnn- I still say some of us do need some more of that precious commodity. If only I could find a way to get a day with more than 24 hours.

I'm in a constant battle with time.  Too many things to accomplish than time permits.  Going with the flow doesn't work for me - I need to consciously break free of the flow and direct my actions and thoughts forcefully.  Perhaps I shouldn't have given up caffeinated coffee...

Dear janeAnne, You always have something thought provoking to express. My question is: why is it that time seems to move faster the older you become? I would write more, but I need to plan my schedule for tomorrow.

Hi JaneAnne - I've been struggling with this myself this year more so than in the past. I like the idea of a clock watcher at meetings! Not being a "meeting person" I like to attend productive meetings that have good stimulating ideas but are short and sweet and ON TRACK! I was reading an interesting article last night about the culture shock Americans have when relocating to, say, Costa Rica:

"Costa Rica is a country built on the PROCESS.  The US, Canada, and many other countries are built on the concept of PERFORMANCE.

What do I mean?  I mean in Costa Rica, the view is that it WILL get done, sometime.  It will seldom, if ever, be on your schedule.  In many other countries, we have grown to expect that things get done quickly and efficiently.  In Costa Rica, it is rare that anything is done quickly OR efficiently These differences are drastic.  If you are A-Type person, Costa Rica can make you crazy unless you make some drastic adjustments in how you view life." from The Real Costa Rica dot Com

As I thought about it I found it a little SCARY not living by a schedule but it also has a certain amount of appeal!

Now I would like to know more about that picture you took! It is fascinating!

Very thought provoking post on time.  Different than most of the time management efficiency stuff that is out there (including my own)

Minor comment - why would you copywrite a blog post?  This is not the way of blogging or the internet.  All you want is fair use and attibution - not copywrite.
