How to make $36 Million in 2 years.

All you have to do is be Andruw Jones. It baffles me how someone can command so much money and at times, can not hit the side of the barn. Here is a guy that in the last year of his contract with Atlanta batsa miserable .222 and hits a measly 26 home runs and does not even break the 100 RBI mark. Yet, he nows gets $36.2 million over the next 2 seasons?

Dodgers signed outfielder Andruw Jones, who had been with the Braves, to a two-year, $36.2 million contract.
The extra $200,000 Jones is earning just so that he can say he makes more than Torii Hunter reportedly will be donated to a Dodgers' charity.

OK, lets break this down. $12 million is a bonus. $9 million is the pay for 2008 and then another $15 million for 2009. I am baffled. What has the sport that I grew up loving become?

I wish I could sell 22% of my leads and make that much.

Hey Danny,

We need to rip up all the cable and TV lines (go back to TV being FREE) break up all the cable companies (I currently pay over $100 per month for my TV) that is how these less than average players command such high salaries.  Advertising on TV at a million a pop, that we pay for, and tickets that cost $92 for a game are outlandish......don't get me going, when I was playing ball......How come DOJ does not look into this, are they too busy worrying what REALTORS make??

Danny - While I don't begrudge the professional athletes making their money while they can, I voluntarily have stopped watching most 'legit' sports because I too think it has gotten out of hand.   I don't buy memorabilia or anything of that nature either anymore.

There is nothing for the DOJ to look into, most major sports leagues have an anti-trust exemption from Congress.  Thats how we all got to watch the New England game last week on every network.  A few congressmen threatened to take a look at the NFL anti-trust exemption if they did not allow other networks to pick it up.

Bryan, I am with you there.

Dick, that is what I am screaming.

Jason, it is way out of hand.

Jason, I am one for regulation to the industry though.

No problem with regulations here.  They should have some competition.

I can not see any reason for salaries being as high as they are. It has gotten out of hand.

We go to Dodger games on other people's unused tickets most of the time because it has gotten so expensive.  What is a bag of peanuts going to cost me now???

$5.50 for a sack of roasted nuts. That is outrageous. What is bad is I went to a game, got a Hamburger, some fries, and a soda, and handed the lady a $20 and got $1.50 back.

HEY....SOMEBODY SELL THAT GUY SOME REAL ESTATE!!!!  Anybody have his number???? :)

When you get him on the phone I want to do the loan. LOL.

P.S. His wife is a Realtor in our area. I wonder if she is staying here.

Nowadays when it comes to athletes professional contract nothing amazes me. The media actually thinks that andruw jones`s two year is a relative bargain. Hopefully he produces this year and earns what he is going to make.

Eddy, in today's economy, I do not think any salary that high is worth it. I am a believe in commission. Earn it. Give him so much for a hit, so much for a home run, so much for a walk and so one. Then take away so much for a strike out, a field out, a pop out. A fielding error. When that happens, maybe we can get back to what the game is about.

Free market Economy -- Danny, Hey man -- Go back a decade and you'll see that they didn't make that kind of money.  I understand what you are saying, yet its how it is right now.

I just scratch my head on that one Danny...he isn't even Hunter's equal anymore.

Aziz, go back 20 years and it ws never heard of. The first million dollar man was Ryan Sanberg.

Rick, that I have to agree with.

01/04/2008 07:36 AM by Danny Thornton (Home America Mortgage, INC.)

That is incredible! I agree with Dick Beals comment regarding all the pay TV that exists and the advertising dollars that are generated. I remember free TV when I was in elementary school and sports heros that were heros because of their talent and not their cars, women, and $$$ It should be called For The Love of the Money and not For The Love Of The Game Andruw's contract is the manifestation of what is wrong with pro sports today! Andruw is one of my favorite players and I think that once these athletes are caught in the pro sports net it moves beyond what they can control. Yes I do realize there are pro athletes that take lesser salaries for a number of reasons (to stay in a particular city, to get better teammates, etc) but they have usually already been very successful. It amazes me the number of people who attach themselves to a single athlete and suck their income from another's talent.

GREED! That's all it is about anymore. He also made his agent richer with that big fat contract.

I enjoyed the 60 minute piece on Brady --he could make more $$$, but would rather win Super Bowls.

01/04/2008 11:30 PM by Aziz Abdur-Raoof,Howard Co. Real Estate Scoop (RE/MAX Rewards)

Yeah..that was a good piece...anyone gonna watch Roger on 60 minutes?LOL

01/05/2008 04:02 PM by BLRGUY(Beach & Luxury Realty Inc)

Aziz, all players need to have that mentality.

Rick, Roger who????

01/05/2008 07:31 PM by Danny Thornton (Home America Mortgage, INC.)

Danny----- Performance incentive contracts do exist but most players don't have enough confidence in their own abilities. They are afraid of getting hurt and i don't blame them. Unfortunately these owners throw money out there like it grows on trees.

Eddy, in all problems, there is a solution. There just has to be a want to achieve that solution.

01/08/2008 09:05 PM by Danny Thornton (Home America Mortgage, INC.)

Wow!  That's a lot of money for just hitting a ball around and not even being good at it!  LOL  You think maybe I can try out?  I know I can hit the ball.

Brigita, they are paying him for what he is capable of.

01/09/2008 11:11 AM by Danny Thornton (Home America Mortgage, INC.)

Danny ------ yes thats true but there is not that particular want in baseball. These sleaze-ball agents that professional athletes hire don't help the situation one bit.
