This time a quintet of UT students founded another young Austin based company called Symplexum LLC. They have developed a smartphone application designed to connect to venues with visitors via music criticism. The app is called beDJ and it is intended to give users a method of rating music in public spaces while providing the owners of such venues with customer analytics.
This sounds like a natural for Austin, Texas ..the live music capital!
This app is aimed at the vendors (bars, stores, restaurants etc. ) to provide something to engage the customer! If the venue can entice the customer to vote on the music playing at the venue they can in turn respond back beginning a dialogue and thanking them for voting and is there anything else they can do for them? In other words they can connect with the customer, thank them for coming in and establish a continuing relationship.
Okay so how are they going to make money offering a platform to give feedback on music? They will generate revenue by charging commercial customers such as retailers for the application and an additional fee for the customer data it can generate. The trick will be to convince the venues to adopt something new to engage the customer!
A beta tester in Austin is the Arab Cowboy and Austin café and hookah lounge http://arabcowboy.com/ . After implementing the beDJ application they find they are using it more to ignite customer involvement in music selections..not a bad thing!
Austin sparks many startups! The creative wheels are always churning. Looking for this environment to live work and play in? Then consider Austin, Texas as your new town!
