Proper attic venting makes all the difference.

Inspecting homes for me is a lot of fun. But not at the buyers expense.

"Uncle Bob" Seems to be hard at work in this part of the country.

This vent is a homemade dryer vent on the roof. Why. There are vents just for the occasion that a dryer vent is needed on the roof.

They are made with a back flow preventer and are made of sturdy steel construction.

So why would you take the time to build your own vent?

It's probably because "uncle Bob" was too cheap to get a "REAL VENT".

Home made dryer vent for the roof.

Notice the "Chicken wire"? I had to laugh at this one.

"Uncle Bob" Needs to stay away from thinking he can do anything.

Yes this was done by a licensed contractor.

And yes this was approved by the mechanical inspector.

The list just keep growing.

Have a great day everyone..

Hey Fred,

What gets me is that these were approved for use. As you know the vents for the dryer need to have a "back flow flapper".

If they don't then when the wind blows so will the lint right back into the dryer and it may cause a fire.

I just shake my head. Have a great day in florida.

Yes I do Brian,

That would be a "ROOF DRYER VENT" not just any dryer vent.

But with all the vents out there, I guess they figured out how to use this one. The wrong way but used it anyway.

The chicken wire creation is a work of art.  More good reasons for a professional home inspection.

Have a very special Memorial Day and an outstanding week.

Hi Richie,

I have heard the contractors say "you can't get that vent" I say Bull Hockey.

Get on the net and order some of the vents.

Wait till I find an actual foundation vent that opens and closes.

I will go into shock.

Have a really swell day today, and thanks for the comment.

All my Best, Clint McKie

Clint, he probably had an extra dryer vent on the shelf and decided to use that. The chicken wire is a nice touch.

At least it wasn't a wall vent being used on the roof.  Those shingles look  marginal as well.

If contractors do the work correctly, owner maintain the home properly, and building inspectors actually inspect, we would not have a job. So thanks for the work Uncle Bob and Co.

Man oh man, that is a great one.  The only thing missing is that it appears that the chicken wire was not duct taped on!  People, some things just should not be done on the cheap...

The chicken wire gives off red flags to me and I'm no expert, to a trained professional I can imagine it would open up all types of questions and investigations.

Pretty clever contractor, not real sure why he would go to all the trouble of making his own though.

Keep 'em coming Clint!

Clint,

I just love how you educate the public. You're a great Teacher and I'm getting educated! Most people take for granted the person who builds a house or makes repairs knows what their doing. When something gets approved, you just assume, everything is okay - HA! You are showing us and tell us we can't assume anything.

Your series is a real awakening.

THANK YOU!

I want to thank everyone once again for all the comments and support over this year of posting in the Rain.

I try to get the point accross to the members who don't have the day to day chance to see these types of repairs made by all the Uncle Bob's out there.

Once again Thank you,

Best, Clint McKie
