Gentle Giant - The Cecropia Moth is the largest native moth in North America. This fine specimen, which we snapped near Kingston NY the other day, had at least a 4 inch wingspan! Ulster County NY is filled with unique wildlife and from spring to summer you're sure to come across some interesting characters! You won't see a Cecropia Moth too often, as they tend to only come out at night. However sometimes they'll venture out during the day, and if you do see one you won't forget it! Big adults like this only live approximately 7-10 days, and are harmless, so it's best to leave them alone if you happen to come across one. But if you can, be sure to take a picture!
