How do you get rid of honey bees around the outside of your Dyersburg home? Yesterday a renter in one of my management homes in Dyersburg,Tennessee called and said honey bees were swarming around their window air conditioner. I went over there and those bees have set up house keeping inside the back wall.
I called a bee expert in Dyersburg named Wayne Rudesill. Actually Wayne is a bee keeper who sells honey for a living. He climbed the ladder with his bee suit on and told me if he could reach the hive he could grab it and put it in a box and take it with him. Unfortunately he could not see or reach the hive so he did the next best thing. He sprayed a can of wasp and hornet spray in the hole where they are going in and out. He told me there is a 50/50 chance they will leave later today.
After talking to Wayne I discovered the bees arrived in a big ball and attached them selves to the outside of the house for a few days before making their way inside the wall. When they are still in a ball outside is the best time for a bee keeper to come and take them all away.
Wayne also told me that the queen bee lives for 2-3 years and all the other bees only live for about 45 days. During the winter they ball up and hybrinate and the queen is kept inside the ball at an even warm temperature. as the bees get older they move to the outside of the ball.
