Trump's Trees, Flag and Other Trump National News

It was a view issue, and there were two sides, or views, to the story.  Trump National Golf Course, located in Rancho Palos Verdes, commands a sweeping view of the Pacific Ocean, and the project has done a tremendous job of beautifying the south side of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Its presence has certainly not hurt real estate values either. Every homeowner on the south side of Palos Verdes should be thankful Donald Trump stepped in and pumped millions of dollars into a floundering project after a massive sinkhole stopped the project cold several years ago.

As I understand it, ficus trees were planted along the west edge of the project to delineate the border of the golf course from the neighboring community.  The trees grew fast, as ficus do, and it looked great from Donald's side of the fence.  The vantage point was a bit different for the homeowners behind the trees.  Instead of Catalina Island, cruise ships and the blue waters of the Pacific they were now looking at leaves.

Donald, if there is one thing the residents of Palos Verdes will fight for it is their view.  I understand the trees are going, but as a local real estate agent, I'm glad you're staying.  The golf course looks wonderful, the clubhouse is one of my favorite places to dine in Palos Verdes and the walking trails throughout the golf course and along the bluffs are nothing short of spectacular.  Besides, your over-sized flag is still standing.

Norma, The Donald made a smart move in losing those trees.  I can only imagine how pissed off I'd be if someone obscured of view like that from my house!

I think you're right to thank "The Donald" for what he's done for the area. I also think it's great the trees are coming down rather than anyone getting into a power struggle. I hope it hasn't been a HUGE controversy for the area. What a lovely picture BTW. You're so lucky to live in such a gorgeous area

Colleen - There was a small power struggle, but happily resolved, and the trees will be removed and planted elsewhere.  So the views and the trees survived!

Trump is an unabashedly self-promoting, everyone-else-be-damned opportunist and megalomaniac.  Sure, he's done some worthwhile projects and brought value to places he's built projects in.  But he has done so at the expense of, and flying in the face of, local communities, historical environments, and general good taste.  He has little to no regard for the people (including the populace of New York City) in whose backyards he brings his big stomping footprint.  If it weren't for his need to exercise his enormously outsized ego, he might actually be able to bring quality projects to fruition without alientating everyone around him.
