Every now and then my in-box shows an email time stamped much earlier in the day, or even a day or two ago.

I've always wondered how that happened, and today I'm wondering even more.

I use Thunderbird for my email, and it shows me if there's an unread message in my in box. This morning, after checking all the new messages and either deleting or saving them, it still showed an unread message. questions

So, I started scrolling backward looking for it. That was good - it caused me to delete a whole pile of messages that I thought I'd get back to read later but never did. I kept going and going and found no unread message - until I got all the way to the beginning.

And there was a spam message - dated February 2002.

Now how can that be? Surely that message hasn't been bouncing around in cyberspace for over 10 years.

If someone knows how this can happen, please tell me!

Marte, this is a strange one!    I know my phone saves messages, and will show unread messages, but not my computer.   Good luck with this strange one!

Joan - I got that message again this morning, too! My son says that it's possible to alter the date on your sent mail, and the sender is probably doing that to make his/her message stand out. I don't know - I'm not going to open it to see what it's about.
